My weapon disappears...

Post by Kameleon »

Well, I was in Hla Oad and I decided to pilfer some stuff that some careless stranger had left in a random crate. But oh no! Here the rules aren't like in Balmora where you can take things out of crates without anyone caring. The guards have been alerted! I'm going to have to pay a 19 gold fine and surrender a petty soul gem! So I do, but then about a minute later I notice my weapon is only my fists. so I press [ to switch back to my sword. It switches to my bow. Where's my sword???? Good question. Anyone?

When you surrender stolen goods, you surrender all stolen goods. Meaning that if that sword of yours was ill gotten, the guard took it along with the soul gem...

The only way to get around that is to either pay to have your bounty removed, or to put any stolen items on the ground before talking to the guard.

Whoah. Does that include items that haven't been reported as stolen, e.g. things you take from chests at the top of towers? If so, that sucks. That would be just about my whole outfit... :D

I suppose I'd just better not get caught in future :p

Thanks :)

Um, yeah. Think of it this way: when you stole items before, it was all reported, but they never had an idea who had done the deed. Now that you've been caught, they go over your inventory with a fine tooth comb, examining everything against a master list.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Why, the sly b****rds... :D
I'm not entirely sure which of my equipment is flagged as stolen and which is not - I have this Saint's Shield I pulled out of a cabinet behind the vendor in the Balmora Temple (along with about 10000 worth of stuff that I sold) and I don't remember it disappearing...and my entire set of Imperial Steel I nicked from a crate in Fort Moonmoth was definitely still there. Oh well, maybe the patch will make it a bit more definite - either everything is reported, or nothing is. And hopefully it will stop me falling through the floor when I jump... :D

When I, um, 'relieved' the woman in Pelagiad of her ****, the guard outside took my fine *and* my soul gems (not all of which were stolen) but left the ****!

Maybe it's because I was actually *wearing* it, having put it on immediately upon gaining possession of it.

Fortunately, I had saved before going outside so I was able to reload and stash the stuff before going out and paying up.

... and when I look at you I think, if I were a psychopath and we were standing on an extremely high cliff above a pounding surf that would drown out your scream ... well ... you know ...

ah, but there might still be hope for your stolen items, though it's probably only the case if you decide to go to jail...
here's what happened to me once... i was using the sword of white woe (or whatever it's called) when i got caught for breaking into a house near pelagiad. being as cheap as i am :) i thought it a waste of money to pay the fine and decided to do the time. a nice message appeared that a few days have passed and i found myself at the front door of pelagiad fort. i then went exploring through the fort and after a while i noticed that my sword was gone :( , what a tragedy. but a little later on i found a locked chest marked 'evidence'... guess what i found when i opened it :D

heh...I've seen those Evidence chests before too, but I'm a fighter and they have a rather high lock level :(
