Check out this thread, it might help, later on we get into more of the hardware issues, also check out a few threads in tech support, some of it may be helpful to you :)

Hey, I was reading this thread to get information, not to wade through a bunch of whining about who insulted whom.

It seems to me that Alvin's experience shows that NWN can run playably even on early Athlons, but Aegis is obviously right that the fact the game won't run on his more-than-adequate machine shows very clearly that Bioware fu@ked up big time with the release.

I wish their under-the-hood tech people were as good as their "game content" people.
This is probably the most sensable post in this thread, and exactly what I was getting at. The fact Bioware designed a game that doesn't wokr with major hardware that is set up in a perfectly normal fashion is just ludacris. The fact of the matter is, when you buy a Game, you should expect as much of it, as you would a car. You expect it to work. Maybe some minor problems or glitches, but nothing to the extent that it will work on X amount of computers, but the rest are horribly screwed over, so they don't get to play the game they've waited four years for.

Best OS?

Thanks for all of the info, but I was wondering about the OS I should choose after upgrade - I currently have 98 (which is pretty good - not too many crashes and it is very 'dirty' (hasn't been reinstalled for 2 years)). Shall I stick with it (reformat + reinstall 98) or move to something newer? I see a comment about 2000/XP with compatibility problems and as for Windows me :(

As for hardware - looking at P4/ Athlon, 256/512MB ram, Geforce 3+, Soundblaster 128 / 1024, large hdd etc etc.

Thanks again,

Recoba

EDIT : Oops! Just realised there is a whole Tech Support Thread near SYM. I will carry on there. Sorry!
