Is it possible to kill Dagoth Gares *without* contracting corpus? Or is it part of the story and now I have to go cure myself? TIA

it's part of the story. After killing him get back to the blade guy (CC)
in balmora and he will tell you what to do.(the guy who gave you the quest)

i used a boost supercharger spell to boost my restoration skill to 200, and cast a super spellmakered spell that gave me 12 seconds of 100 resist for corpus, and still got it...

its scripted...
