My second time through is with a monk named Monkboy. Starting out with a monk can be kinda tough so make sure you have plenty of healing potions allocated to your monk. I started my monk with 18 on everything except wisdom and charisma. I just equipped the charisma ring on him.
As you progress through the game and raise your levels, your attacks and attack speeds increases. What's really cool about the monk is that he can't wear any armor so you can give all the best armor to the other members of your party. You can increase his ac by equipping cloak of protection (or rings) +1, +2, bracers and gem stones. The monk is a straight brawler and he is resistant to a lot of magic. All in all, I'm having a ball playing with the monk. His special abilities such as quivering palm can do some serious damage. Try him out, you might like him.

Very well, hi-ya
Basically what dafreak said but put CON to 16 since extra points do not gain any more HP. The monk is pretty much a liability as a frontline fighter until approx. lvl 13. However towards the end of the game he is a one-man demolition derby.
I found Minsc always gets hurt fast because he has 15 DEX so he only gets +1 bonus to his AC and I tend to get him to dual-wield or use 2-handed weapons so he doesn't use a shield. I use Jaheira as front-line since she has 17 DEX (+3 AC bonus), semi-decent HP and she uses a club and shield so she has respectable AC. Its up to you really, you can also use Korgan, Keldorn or Anomen although they all have terrible DEX so you will have to get them the gauntlets of dexterity

Yes have tanks with a shield up front, then two-handers behind and behind them archers and mages.Originally posted by tarax_man:
The monk rocks, but try to make him last until he hits about level 14 coz when his happens he gains some cool abilities. In the mean time dont worry if he seems a little weak, coz he get much better latter in the game.

Ah! The single most powerful character in the game, IMHO, when considering overall balance of abilities. At high levels, anyway. They have great speed, awesome attacks, good AC, decent HPs, great magic resistance, some basic thief skills including stealth, and awesome special abilities. After 14-15th level, they're so powerful, they're practically boring to play! Mine wiped out the entire Drow city virtually by himself. Most powerful doesn't always mean fun, but it was pretty amazing to watch.
I agree with all the above advice, but I like the save bonus of high WIS, if you can afford to allot the points there. Protect the monk at low levels, and you'll be very well rewarded. After about 13th level, I moved him up to the front and rarely had any problem with him there. He easily had the most kills in the party. By a lot!

The only place you can get the guantlets is in the Sahuagin city. You have to side with the King, if you do not you won't get the gauntlets, he must be alive to give them to you, killing him will not give you the gaunlets and they're not found anywhere in the city.
Believe me I know
Gauntlets of crushing +4 to hit and +4 damage
sweeeet!
And it stacks with the belt of giant strengh.
