Which Henchman do you use most?

Post by Astafas »

Sorry, but I couldn't resist making this poll. I find myself going back to Daelan (or sometimes Grimgnaw) every time the game gets rough - who do you use most?

I go for tomi, expecially(sp?) in the beginning where a thief is highly recommanded, so if you play a non-thief non-familiar you will need tomi.
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

I use Tomi at the beginning, but then after about level 7 or so Grimgnaw gets cold damage, which will go through any damage resistance on a chest. No thief needed then, as I can walk through traps without dying (due to a certain rather tasty ring) and Grimgnaw is such a dude... :D

Tomi mostly, due to his disarm traps and open locks. Playing as a Paladin, I need help in that way. Most things don't do damage to me (except some spell casters), and using Tomi with Sharwyn's +2 short-bow is pretty nice for his sneak attacks on the dudes I'm attacking.

I wondering if bashing destroys any of the contents of chests that are trapped and/or locked. If so, I might decide to go to Sharwyn, Liun (sp?) or maybe Grimgnaw (although a Paladin playing with an obviously evil character just doesn't sit well with me).

I like Boddynock. I just started and play a thief, so a sorceror is a must. I take care of most of the fights, /w dual wield(im also a lvl 1 ranger) and having Boddy cast damaging spells, and buffing spells just helps a lot more than a extra fighter would. Due to some character high ac or damage absorbers, the spells matter. Plus I know where there is an emeny when i c the magic missles go flying :) Also he uses hi X-bow, which is good for staying out of the way.

I like Tomi in the beginning to disarm traps and unlock doors. Lately I've been using Bodynock now that he leveled up and can unlock the doors. But every now and then you just have to have Daelan to kick butt.
I guess I'm sitting on the fence.

I used Tomi in the beginning, too, though shortly thereafter found out that traps could be tanked without major inconveniences.

** Some Spoilers ahead, be warned :) **

So looking for something different came across Boddynock, and although he is quite a triggerhappy fellow, once you understand how his AI works you can get the most from him. He always starts the fight casting some protection -and very useful- spell on you, mage armor at first, improved stoneskin in the latter stages of the game, and then procedes to wreak havoc on the mobs with chain lightnings, cones of cold, etc...

Also, I had some paladin levels, so the CHA bonus and regeneration of the ring he gives you proved to be very useful indeed. Combine that one with the Ring of Elemental Resistance you can get from the Avatar of Helm at the end of chapter 1, or a Ring of Power whenever you can afford it, and traps quickly became totally unimportant :D :p

Edit: OH! And remember that Boddynock always casts "Knock" on every locked chest if you ask him to do so, and this spell has a curious area of effect, unlocking every chest or door nearby, including in adjacent rooms lol :D

NO ONE voted for Luni? She's the softest on the eyes and the funniest! Oh well, I voted for Daelan because he's a powerhouse.

Another poll should be "Which henchman do you LIKE the most."

Seems like the girls are having trouble keeping up with the boys despite their better looks... Not very surprising to see Tomi in the lead, as thief skills come handy in this game.

I apologize for my misspelling of Linu's name in the poll - would any of the mods care to correct this? And the magic word is "please"... :D

I have used a different henchman for each chapter. Linu for Ch 1. Sharwyn for Ch 2. Tomi for Ch 3 until the boss, when I went to Grimgnaw. I plan to finish up with Grimgnaw (unless he starts showing signs of frequent death like the sexy bard and especially Linu did).

Tomi is still in a clear lead. And who would have suspected that so many (well, at least if you look only at the percentage ;) ) would go for that evil dwarf? And still not a single vote for the oh so sexy Sharwyn...

Gonna be away on vacation until Tuesday. Keep them votes coming and see you soon! :)

I have used the cleric Linu the most so far. My main char I am playing right now is a Paladin and I find that she does well. If we walk into any undead - watch out - between us we have 10 turn undeads.

She can also fully heal me when I only have 1/3 health. Cure critical wounds potions don't cut it for me unless I spam them around half health and I end up spending more time using potions than killing mobs.

The way I use her now is I usually set her near an entrance to the room / area and tell her to stand her ground. I pull the mobs back near her and with my high ac and high hp's I beat them up. If things start to go south and I go below half health I tell her to heal me - she does that and then starts casting some sweet damage spells. She has one area affect damage / stun spell, some sort of single target fire spell, and several divine damage spells. So her and I clean up and rest and then move on. She also gets pretty good AC since she is a cleric but she can get killed fairly easily if you let her start casting right when you start fighting some tough creatures because they love to attack casters.

I really like Tomi.. his dialogues are hilarious, he is a halfling :) , his trap disarming is good, and he can dish out alot of damage if you use him right..

Linu. Shes ok as a warrior and since I play and elf ranger/rogue I have no need for Tomi or Daelan as I can pick locks with the best of em and hold my own in a fight with some healing from her. That and shes funny and Ive been doing my best to hit on her the whole game :)

Before this thread fall completely into oblivion, I'd like to sum it up and declare Tomi a clear winner, with twice as many votes as Grimgnaw, who takes the second place. Then it's pretty tight between Daelan, Linu and Boddyknock, while Sharwyn comes in last.
