Replace Valygar With ... ?
Well, I'm currently in the Graveyard for the first time with Korgan, Yoshimo, Jaheira, and Viconia. However, I plan on retrieving the Book of Kaza, dropping Jaheira and getting Haer'Dalis in her place. I don't know where the hell he is, but I want him. THEN I wanna get Valygar for a while and then drop him later to replace him with ... who?
Again, my party will be Apocalypse (PC), Korgan, Yoshimo, Haer'Dalis, Viconia, ???.

Literally, anybody will work for you; it's just that some parties make winning easier. That's all.
That said, I'd opt for a sixth party member who's a mage or sorc. Given the bad/neutral cast of what you've got, go for Edwin, the sorc. Very powerful character, fun to play with, too.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Edwin is not a Sorceror but a Conjurer, and I know you know that...Originally posted by fable

IIRC, NS is playing a Necromancer, so he's not short of spells. But why not get Edwin anyway?
@NS
You need a hint regarding Haer'Dalis?

If you gonna drop Jaheira for some reason, I recommend you add Cernd instead. A lycantroph should go nicely with your party, no?

Dude, you like read my mind there. I was even gonna make the topic "Haer'Dalis vs. Cernd." The only reason I sided was cuz of your own personal comments regarding Bards - Blades especially. And hints (even spoilers, if necessary) would be appreciated if it'll help me.
(Boring irrelevant context following with what I think to be small spoilers of game plot - read @ own risk)

Wanted to share some excitement I have about the game and stuff, but you don't have to read if you get bored easily.
Just a sidenote on my progress, right after I got Korgan: I went to the Government like the guy said and talked to this mage guy in the Council Building and guess what I found out? Valygar is a murderer! So I'm about to go to the Umar Hills. But I can't click it on my map thing, even though it's there. So then I go to the Bridge District and this guy is complaining about some serial killer or something. Then this guy (I forget where I met him) said something about Windspear Hills ... I think it was in Waukeen's Promenade when I got Anomen and Nalia out of my face. So he marks yet another place on my map. Then right before I try going to the Winspear Hills, this hooded chick comes out of nowhere with this really creepy voice saying to meet me in the Graveyard or something.
I'm like UNREAL! lol ... But before I did that somehow I was able to leave to go to Windspear, then all these killer monsters came out of nowhere and killed me ... reload ... reassign scripts ... come back, KILLED THEM ALL! Then I go into some guy's house and get ambushed again. Then leave the house and try to explore and solve the monster problem. But then Korgan says something about his Tome expedition or some crap drawing near ... or something like that. So I'm like uh oh I don't wanna loose him so I go BACK to Athkatla - and here I am in the Graveyard (during the day) searching for the Book.
My Necromancer is still level 9, but he's really really really powerful and stuff. I think he has the most kills out of the entire party. And this is probably just me, but Stoneskin has to be the best spell in the world. Who needs all those stupid illusion spells when you can just become totally invulnerable to physical attacks?! And, just like I thought, Korgan is so awesome. He melees everything in sight and has never died. I used his Berserker rage twice, and even after he lost the bonus, he took 12 damage and still had 111 HP! LoL! Yoshimo is now my trap disarmer - he attacks from range now and detects traps. Viconia ... man she is cool. The moment she spots an enemy me and her stay behind Yoshimo, Jaheira, and Korgan while they slash away. And she Blesses everyone! Then she goes in and hammers away!
Jaheira dies the quickest though and that kind of gets on my nerves. I think my highest level in the party is Yoshimo - who is almost level 12. I can't even begin to figure how he got that high.
---------
So if you were patient enough to read me go on and on about how BG2 owns, I have a question for you. I'm thinking about getting the Rod of Ressurrection for Viconia. Will this protect her from getting disintergrated and will she be able to like ... use it anytime she wants? How do rods work?

Go for Edwin. He's a lawful evil specialist mage, like yourself, and an absolutely wicked one at that. His personal, undroppable amulet gives him 1 bonus spell for every level.. or is it 2? It's obvious that your personal mage will be getting the very best wizarding equipment, but Edwin should perform quite well with whatever you see fit to give him. He's really funny in a mean way, and he has a VERY worthwhile subquest involving an ancient Netherese scroll. Let's just say he gets his comeuppance in a hilarious way. ^_-

Sort of, but it's simply called Edwin's Amulet and he snaps at you about it being his birthright and his alone if you touch it. It doesn't list the bonus spells in the description, but they are indeed present. The Metaspell Influence amulet adds one bonus 2nd level spell, but Edwin's Amulet adds one bonus spell of EACH level.. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and so on. Many a mage would be incredibly jealous of it, but once you get the Amulet of Power from Aran Linvail (you'll find out later), you won't mind so badly.

Go to the Bridge district. Enter The Five Flagons Inn and go downstairs to see the play. Talk to Raelis Shai, who'll tell you about their missing actor. Then go free H'D in the Sewers (hidden door) under the Temple District. Make sure to not kick H'D out from the party before rejoining Raelis Shai, cause you'll then loose him forever.

I'd rather choose Cernd than Edwin in your case. You already have enough mage spells but you'll miss out on the druidic ones without Jaheira.

Cernd is really a badass throughout the game and will provide a balance of spells rather than being loaded up with Edwin and yourself.
His shapechange is very good the entire game, and thru a lot of ToB and no one can dispute the ravaging power of insect plague/creeping doom especially against mages.

But that's the thing. Aren't Druid spells and Priest spells the exact same thing? Can't a Cleric still cast Iron Skins, Animal Summoning III, and False Dawn?
That was half the point of me trading in Jaheira for Viconia - they both cast assisting priest spells, and Viconia comes with added bonuses such as a more appropriate romance senario which compliments the PC and enhances gaming experience for me since she's more mysterious and interesting than Jaheira, IMHO.
Edwin vs. Cernd? A tough decision for me ... I could of really used another evil specialist mage. I dunno.

No, they are not the same. Druids and Clerics share many in common though, but some are reserved for each class alone. Only Druids can throw one of the best spells in the game, namely Insect Plague. Not to mention Nature's Beauty... I always have at least one Cleric and one Druid.
With both you and H'D throwing mage spells, you need no more. Edwin's cool but I'd go with Cernd for the added flexibility.

I also say ya for cernd. His shapeshift ability can really come in handy in a battle vs magic resistant creatures. Anyways, you can shift back and forth a fair amount at later levels. Toss out some high level spells, go gww and savage them! Switch back to heal your party members, and back to gww to kill more. The resistances to poison and elements make him deadly. The only downside is the relatively bad ac.
The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.

Damn you guys are awesome... everyone over at the BIS boards hates Cernd(leaving out the reasons so I won't spoil NS). Big deal, he's an awesome character, but his stats aren't too great(Dex in particular). And about druidic spells vs. clerical spells I think druid spells are more fun but cleric spells are more functional. And Haer'Dalis is one of my favorite NPC's so if he fits take him. And another thing about Cernd is even in werewolf form his healing spells will be cast when you rest... very cool. So definately take Cernd over Edwin.

Tough call trying to fill two spots with Edwin, Cernd, and Haer'dalis.
If you're evil, you don't want to miss one of the few evil NPCs. On the other hand, you have the potential for a very mage-heavy group (veterans, take another look at his current party and see if you agree).
For the best of everything, I'd say take Cernd instead of Haer'dalis. You get the cool druid spells (bards only get up to 6th level mage spells, nothing you won't have), and trade Cernd's impressive shapeshifting for Haer'dalis' fun defensive and offensive spins. Haer'dalis is a blade, so you're not missing anything by not having a bard song, at least unless you install ToB with it's high-level abilities (not till much later anyway).
You can always swap NPCs out if you don't like them, but once you pick them up, they're locked into their initial levels unless they're in your group. (i.e. if you pick up, say, Yoshimo at level 9, drop him, and come back after your PC has gained one million exp., Yoshimo will still be at level 9 and look like a wuss.)
Are you regretting asking advice on this forum yet?

Although it doesn't say who, what, when, where, how, or why, the following is still a fairly major spoiler, and if Network paid enough attention to one of my earlier posts in his first topic, he'll probably figure it out after reading this. It's colored in black for easy avoidance if he'd rather avoid a spoiler
It should be noted that unless Network wants to use Imoen or have a five member party, he'll ultimately have an empty slot into which he can add Cernd anyway. That being the case, he'll probably need to pick up Jan instead..

After doing some thinking *ignores hoots of derision*, given your party makeup, might go with Haer'dalis rather than Edwin. Yeah, he's a very powerful spellcaster and one of the few evil NPCs out there, but if you're role-playing, your evil necromancer probably won't get along too well with another intelligent, arrogant, and selfish mage. An evil character like that would probably rather travel with strong guys who can protect him while still being dim enough to be manipulated. Any chance at picking up Minsc again?

I think it's pretty easy, all things considered. *hint* Go for the more balanced party:Originally posted by Nygma

Korgan - Axe and Throwing Axe/Throwing Hammer, or dual Axes (give him Gauntlets of Dex)
Viconia - Flail or Hammer, and Sling (giver her Girdle of Strength)
H'D - Short Swords, Long Swords or Katanas (give him Girdle of Fortitude)
Cernd - Staff or Spear, and Darts (Give him Bracers of AC 3)
Yoshi - Short Sword, Long Sword or Katana (depending on what you gave H'D), and Short Bow
Necromancer - Staff and Throwing Dagger
This party will have everything. I prefer Jan as a thief myself, but as you seem to like Yoshi...
