henchman questions--some spoilers

okay, i finished the enitre game and used tomi until i realized that i could shoot any chest with magic arrows and blow them up, sharwyn till i decided i didn't like her buffing me to fight a zombie, and daelen trhoughout the rest of the game. i tried off and on to get secondary quests but i guess that i did not use the character enough. i never mangaed to get a single henchman quest. my question is just how much time do they have to spend with you to get that quest. i spent a fair bit of time with daelen and carried that chipped axe around through the end. then i carried that uthgart spear around till the end. but nothing. and i had him with me a pretty good bit. maybe not 75% of the time, but pretty close. so why did i never get any of the secondary quests?

If you didn't do the henchman's quest in chapter one, you are hosed. You can't start doing the quests later.

I've been doing all the quests for all the henchmen. Kinda' a pain at times, but you do get some nice items. In the first chapter, it seemed to take a while: I could talk to them twice and then they would not finish their story (to actually give me the quest) until after I had leveled. Later on, (once you had earned their trust?) it is easier. Now, in chapter three, I invited them and repeatedly spoke to them and got their quests in one swell foop - no leveling needed.

This (the first paragraph) probably isn't what you wanted to hear, but there it is....

As said above... however, you don't need to spend any time at all with the NPCs. If you make level 6 in the first chapter, then just talk to each NPC three times in a row to get their quests. If you complete their quests in chapter one then you can get their quests in chapter two. If you complete their quests in chapter two then you can get their quests in chapter three.

If you want, you can make a henchman-quest very swiftly, just wait until you are high lvl enough to complete the quest with the henchman you want to use, then you know you are high enough vlv to complete the others as well. Just talk to them several times in a row and they will ask for a specific item. If you are in the end of each chapter, you probably have that item anyway, in which case you can immediately complete the quest.
