Yshania recovered. 'Actually' she retorted, the humour lost 'I never considered...I mean one minute you were...erm...' she paused, backtracking 'there is a why ? I asked how...' She blushed and looked to Dragon Wench.

'So many words and no answer' it replied imperiously, elegantly tossing it's head 'I will take this as complimentary, I...sense the effort'

For a long moment no words passed between them, the two women trying to conceal their childlike fascination, the kinder dragon enjoying every moment of the attention whilst casually pretending not to notice and preening his scales. Eventually Yshania drew breath and asked

'So who are you?'

'Ah! You afford me a possible identity! How gracious of you!' Yshania cringed, how often does she get to meet a dragon? and here she was appearing to offer it no more respect than the figurine she had beheld previously, and so wanted to hold, to admire. Never would she compete with the aged wisdom of such a beast, especially one she was sure could challenge Simbul for apparent arrogance....

Gwalchmai saw both Dragon Wench and Yshania conversing with what appeared to be a tiny opalescent dragon resting between them. He realized that the little guy was alive as soon as it turned to look at him. “Aw,” he cooed, reaching his hand toward the diminutive beast, “How cute! A wee, widdle dwagon! Can I pet him?”

Suddenly, Gwalchmai yelped and retracted his hand. “Ow! It bit me!” Pouting, he sucked on his fingers. “I hope it doesn’t have fleas….” he grumbled and regarded the dragon with a wary eye. The dragon returned a baleful look but disdained any further interaction with Gwalchmai. It returned its attention to the ladies.

Dragon Wench groaned inwardly, and wondered why her life was never simple...... Searching for words, she turned to the dragon....

"I had entered......another dimension......it is a long story, and I am not sure I quite understand how I have come to possess such an ability....... Before you became....alive......you had the form of a small dragon figurine...a gift from somebody special......," she stumbled and trailed.....

The dragon, after taking the time to nip at Gwally, interjected with an irritated snort, "What do you mean BEFORE I was alive? I have existed since the very dawn of all time, I AM Axis Libra, and I will not bow to any puny mortal's assumption that I have ever been anything other than my present incarnation."

Dragon Wench sighed and ignored the dragon's evident ignorance of its origins, deciding to humour the beast instead. She inclined her head respectfully, and introduced herself before continuing.

"It would appear that.....in a way....you accompanied me from the realm I was in...... but perhaps you could enlighten us on how this might have occurred?"

“Great,” Gwalchmai thought, “a toy dragon with delusions of grandeur. He may not bow to anyone, but he’d better be careful not to be stepped on!” Chuckling to himself, Gwalchmai sat down to observe the conversation as it progressed.

As the dragon was about to speak, it suddenly turned a brilliant shade of flaming red and then... poof... turned to ash. Horrified, DW and Yshania looked up to see Thantor holding a Winchester .457 plasma rifle. Spitting a bit of chaw from one side of his mouth, he drawled, "Well, got rid of that little varmint, didn't I?"

Bloodstalker stood up from behind the rock he had taken cover behind, admiring the spectacle of the exploding mage with a huge smile. Very nice, he thought to himself, even though it was a shame that all that alcohol had been wasted before it had properly run it's course though the drows body. Still, he couldn't sum up any sympathy for the dead mage.

He was still grinning as he made his way back towards some commotion that seemed to be centered around DW. About twenty feet away, he froze in his tracks, jaw hanging open as he saw what all the excitemnt was about.

"I'll be damed" was all he could manage to say, then he became aware that his mouth was hanging open and he probably looked like some drooling imbecile.

He reached beneath his armor and brought out another flask, drinking deeply, his eyes locked in amazement at the miniature dragon, mumbling to himself that maybe it was time he cut back on the drinking a little....

Mysterias lulled her head to the side, glancing up briefly from where she still laid. she blinked a couple times, before mumbling something, and placing her head back onto her arms, and part of Aegis' cloak that she had rolled up as a pillow, obviously too tired still to care much.

It had been an interesting night so far, the Ranger thought to himself. No more than a couple hours rest before the first disturbance. The group would need more then that, if they had any hopes of defeating the Abomination. Aegis went to stand next to Nippy and Bloodstalker, both men making the small elf appear even smaller. The ranger took one glance at the corpse of the drow, and merely shrugged. He had seen enough violence this day to be bothered by any further. He tilted his head up to Nippy.

"Well done, if not excessive." Nippy shrugged his shoulders. "Bloodstaler, and myself were about to make a breif patrol of the area. There is something amiss around here, and I think it is more then just a lone drunken drow mage. Care to join us?"

Aqua-chan was sure that this was her time to move out. To endanger this party would be completely pointless: this was her mission, and though she didn't like the thought, it had to be done.

When lying down trying to rest, she began to take Faldorn's words and started to break them down until each sentance had a new meaning. Eventally coming to a conclusion, she realized that either Faldorn wanted her dead without wasting any more of her own minions, was using her (just as Thantor had suggested), or was really testing Aqua-chan in this way to see the best of her abilities.

Suddenly, a thought sprang to mind.

To take out the Drow, but let the Abomination live would be balance, but so would be killing the Abomination and letting the Drow live in return.

Being enslaved by the Drow for most of the early years of her life, Aqua-chan wanted nothing better than to destroy them all and leave thier bodies to rot. But, seeing as how that was not a possibility here, her plan started to form itself:

The idea would be to invert Faldorn's directions, just slightly. If the Abomination was to be destroyed, then the possibility of all of this happening again would be at a minimal. The Drow would always reproduce, but one Abomination for Faerun was enough.

She would distract the Drow by whatever means possible. Somehow, she would lead them away from the main path the the Dark Flames would follow, and hopefully wouldn't return to thier posts long enough for the team to get through and get out.

If Faldorn would ever send for Aqua-chan again, as furious as the Great Druid would be, the Ishiatorian would have a good point: she kept perfect balance in the way she saw fit. There would be no way to argue with that.

But, this mission might be deemed as suicide. Drow were not stupid (though Aqua-chan liked to think they were) and would not be sidetracked very easily. Even if she did Hide in Shadows, many of the priests she would encounter could cast True Sight, and that would be the end of the line for her.

It matters not: the chance of death always lays at every turn. That has never stopped me before.

So the it was decided. She would risk the chance of death if itwould mean keeping balance by moving the Drow out of the way of the Dark Flames so a huge slaughter would not have to occur.

Picking herself up, she glanced at the allies she had made in that short time: Of course there was Gwally, who, obviously liked to play around and goof off, but that was his business.

I wish I could see his face when the Mouse crawls out of his backpack and into his shorts, she thought to herself.

Besides him, there was Mysteria. It was a rocky start, but once things were cleaned up a little, she proved to be very kind and reliable.

Vivien, "Battle Mage extraordinaire" and Cuddler of Polymorphed Drow Rabbits. She had a look to her that really made Aqua-chan feel happy for a long while... Too bad that was about to end.

The last person Aqua-chan could bring herself to think about was Thantor. They had met during his time of investigating the Drow, and she did as best she could to help with providing him onformation. She had forgotten how the two just seperated -- it was probably with little ceremony if she couldn't recal what had happened that day.

There were others: Bloodstalker, Dragon Wench, Yshania, Nippy, Farscape... The list went on and on. However, the cat woman told herself not to dwell on these thoughts any longer, as she was afraid that she may become so saddened that she may just back out of her own plan.

She stood quietly, making sure that almost everyone's attention was on the small dragon that glimmered in Dragon Wench's hand. Luckily, most of the group was intent to be fastinated with it, all except for Gwally, who had apparently been bitten by it.

"And now, for my little dissappearing trick" she whispered, then stepped backwords and rested along the cold stone wall. The shadows were deep, and were good for stealthing it out.

Before the group even knew that she had left, she hybrid crept out silently and moved over the the blood-stained spot of the dead Drow Mage, then turned into the opened passageway.

This, was her second mistake.

“Pardon me, Great Axis Libra,” T’lainya interjected respectfully, inclining her head to the diminutive dragon. She had been over-hearing the conversation with the miniature dragon while simultaneously scanning the cavern for any additional threats. “I would like to ask Dragon Wench about her experiences, if I may interrupt.” Turning to address her friend, she asked, “What is this new-found dimension you speak of? What did it look like?”

Dragon Wench arched an eyebrow and described the wintry landscape she had visited, leaving out details of the cabin and her meeting with Jerren. T’lainya looked thoughtful. “You say you accessed this realm under your own power? I have only a little experience with extra-planar travel, but this doesn’t sound anything like that. Few are able to shift planes at will.” She shot a wry glance at Dragon Wench, “Unless, of course, you are a deity in disguise, Mystra herself perhaps?”

“I hardly think so,” Dragon Wench laughed.

“Though she could pass for a goddess in my book,” Gwalchmai muttered. Bloodstalker nodded in agreement. Thantor grinned.

T’lainya pretended not to have heard Gwalchmai’s comment. “I must wonder if this place, so near the Abomination, has somehow given you access to this realm you describe.” She looked toward the beckoning hallway that had just been revealed, and a grim look came over her face. “Even as we speak, the fabric of the Weave itself is being unraveled; torn asunder through decay and rot.” Gasps were heard from several Dark Flames at this news, particularly from the mages, who had the greatest understanding of the nature of the Weave. Jennabard shook her head sadly, Dragon Wench looked shocked, and Vivien stammered “But how can this be? We must stop this!”

“Indeed.” Simbul’s voice sounded imperious as she floated above them. “Your dreams are very informative, T’lainya, and you are very perceptive. Now you know how the Abomination not only threatens the greater balance, but all of Faerun as well!”

Faintly uncomfortable at the sudden attention Dragon Wench, muttering something inaudible about men, shot a wry look at Gwally and rolled her eyes expressively at T'lainya ( ;) ).

However, before she was able to poke Gwally in the ribs, the elven priestess said something that made her feel numb with horror. What T'Lainya had suggested made a great deal of sense.....yet Dragon Wench wondered why none of her friends had underwent the same experience. As answers rose in her mind, Dragon Wench turned uneasily to T'lainya and Yshania, her gaze deeply troubled. Although she said nothing, the two other women seemed intuitively to read her thoughts. The one nodded quietly, the other squeezed her lightly upon the shoulder.

Simbul, taking in the unspoken considerations occurring near her, glanced at the small group, her expression inscrutable.....though her gaze lingered on Dragon Wench for several long moments.

Still irritated by her encounter with Axis, Yshania addressed the small knot clustered within the vicinity. Motioning to the dragon, she spoke.

"Perhaps Dragon Wench having found.....um....a familiar....and being able to enter that dimension also is related to some sort of shifting within the Weave..... a reassessing of the Balance......"

Dragon Wench nodded slowly. "I think that is possible....when I am there......the pain....all the emotions....seem to fade somehow....there is a sense of neutrality." She refelected on whether or not she should mention Jerren's cabin which while somehow apart from the wintry landscape, was also intrinsically linked to it. Considering the possible associations, however, she remained silent....

Axis Libra, while feigning complete disdain, had been observing the discussion with considerable curiosity. The small dragon was intrigued by the group of mortals before him. In particular, he wondered at the strange actions of the man known as Thantor. The ranger/cleric had lurched towards him, gesticulating wildy, and had incoherantly mumbled something about pumpkin seeds (: D). Axis, naturally inquisitive, decided he would have to investigate this unusual phenomena when opportunity allowed........ Dragon Wench had also speculated at the peculiar behaviour exhibited by her friend, but had attributed it to the noxious air emanating from the recently revealed passageway. ( ;) )

Shifting around on the ground, Mysteria wondered what strange dreams she was having ... Somehow, all her friends seemed to have gathered around Dragon Wench who held a miniature glowing dragon in her palm and to add to the weirdness of her dream, the whole cave seemed to have been sprayed with gore ... Rolling over onto her other side, she shook her head, she was really having the strangest of drea ... Suddenly, she opened her eyes wide, jumping into a sitting position, incredulously watching the scene in front of her. What had been going on here?!?

As rubbing her eyes still did not make the vision go away, she finally accepted that she was indeed awake. Judging from the blood splattered all over the place, she must have been sleeping like a log not to have heard anything. Stretching, she found that the sleep had refreshed her, giving her back the energy she needed to face another ... day? ... night? ... it was hard to tell in the underground darkness.

Looking around for Fang, she noticed the pillow she had been using. Intrigued, she tugged at one of the slightly frayed edges, unfolding Aegis's dust-covered cloak. Puzzled, she looked at the cloak, then over at the small ranger, who was dwarfed by Nippy and Bloodstalker. Turning the cloth over in her hands, she smiled, then stood and walked towards Aegis. Halfway to him, her step faltered, worry and confusion showing on her face. A warm feeling in her belly made her want to go over to her friend and take him in her arms, while deep rooted fear pushed her to stay away from him, to keep her magic away from him. Twisting his cloak around in her hands, she stared at the ground while memories of people she had hurt flashed up in her mind ... the mage she had turned to stone ... the warrior struck by lightning ... her parents' frightened faces as their house burned to the ground ... the people of the village she had flooded ... All had come to close to her in one way or another, some knowing the risk they took, most not.

Her gaze fell on Thantor, he too had come close, but his closeness was soothing and calming, making her feel more balanced where there had been only chaos before. Aegis was ... different, touching her feelings, sending them in a jumble. Sighing, she folded the cloak, then took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, then composed her face. The elven cloak seemed to burn in her hand, forcing her to approach Aegis to get rid of it though she wanted nothing else but stay far from him to keep him safe from herself.

"Aegis?", her voice sounded strangled to herself, "Thank you", she offered the cloak to him, trying to force a smile onto her face. As he took the cloak, his fingers barely brushed hers and she dropped the cloak, while her magic swirled around. Perplexed, the ranger bend down to retrieve his cloak, his lips moved, but the words he said escaped her as she stammered about having to look after Fang. Backing up, she bumped into the wolf who had joined her silently when he realized that Vivien was not going to let go of that appetizing bunny. Quickly crouching down, Mysteria began to try to get the dried blood out of his coat, still oblivious to the fact that her hair had taken on a blue hue replacing her ordinary reddish one.

"You slept well then?" The ranger asked, as he knelt over to retreive his cloak, looking down for only a moment. As he titled his eyes back up, Mysteria had moved off, and was cleaning Fang. She must not have heard him. Something seemed off about the women, but the elf couldn't place, it left it at the thought of encounter of the abomination that was coming up. He didn't notice the blue tinge in her hair. He stood back up, and turned to Nippy and Bloodstalker. "Have you decided, Paladin?" Aegis asked.

Nippy nodded. "Aye, I will go with you two. If there is evil to smite, I shall be more then happy to help." He grinned widely.

Aegis nodded, first to Nippy, then Bloodstalker. The three then turned, and began to head towards the tunnel they came in from. Along the way, they passed the assembled group of Dark Flames. Stepping next to Gwally, Aegis placed a hand on his shoulder. The druid turned around quickly.

"I have an odd feeling about the tunnels behind us. The three of us are going to check it out."

"Very well, Aegis. Tread lightly. We'll wait for your return." Gwally replied, then turned back around, and to the other Dark Flames.

Aegis then nodded to the other two men, and the three set out in the darkness of the tunnels.

“Tread lightly,” Gwalchmai said to Aegis, barely suppressing a snicker. He had to turn back to the group gathered around the mini-dragon to hide the expression on his face. The image of Aegis that had come unbidden to his mind made him want to guffaw. Aegis, with his blind eye, had the tendency to walk with one arm extended. With his wounded leg, he had a lurching, shuffling step. It reminded Gwalchmai for all the world like the stories of Mummies told around campfires to scare children. Gwalchmai knew that Aegis’ movements were nowhere near as pronounced as the pantomimed actions associated with the old horror stories, but he still had to work hard not to giggle.

Gwalchmai again wondered at the pride the elf must feel that would prevent him from seeking appropriate healing – healing that was readily available from any of the four clerics and druids in the group. If this keeps up, Aegis will be nothing more than a torso and head, blinded, deafened, and likely without a nose. All for pride. Gwalchmai shook his head sadly.

(OOC- this can fit in anywhere, current or past, or I can remove it if anyone wants me too, I was just bored, and didn't know if the skeleton was even still conjured. :D )

(IC)

The hollow eye sockets traced every move Flanders made. To bad she didn't have skin, she would really like to let that one sink his teeth into her. The skeleton tilted the hat back on it's skull, took out the makings, and rolled herself a smoke. Inhaleing as best was possible with no lungs, she rested her bony hands on the lowslung belt across her hips, moving the fingers to brush thoughtfully against the throwing hammer resting in the leather holster tied down to her thigh bone.

out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a movement, and tilted her head to take in the newcomer. Another skeleton, similar in dress to herself, stepped out from the shadows, sporting a matching pair of ivory handled hammers in leather holsters. Her curiosity about the newcomer turned to anger when she noticed the stranger staring at Flanders.

"That's one hunk of walking Dead"

taking the cig from between her lipless mouth, she gazed at the stranger as the smoke dissipated from her ribcage.

"I reckon that ones carryin' muh brand."

the two stood staring at each other, hands close to their weapons.

"I figure to dispute that thar claim pilgrim, whut you got t' say about that?"

"reckon there ain't nothing to say" replied the skull mouth, the ciggarrette again dangling from it's hideous grin.

" You figure to stop me?" asked the newcomer

"reckon so" came the reply

" best rethink that afore you go an get hurt", sneered the newcomer, hands moving closer to the hammers at her side.

"Already dead as it is pilgrim" the skeleton shrugged as as she threw the ciggarette to the stone floor.

The moment strtched long, the was suddenly was broken as the hands of the combatants flashed like lightning towards their hammers. The newcomer was just bringing hers to throwing position when the hammer flew into her breastbone, scattering her bones in every direction.

The victor moseyd over to retrieve her hammer, spinning it back into it's holster as she regarded the newcomers currently unattached skull as it spoke again.

"How can you be that fast and be dead? the skull asked.

"I was bushwhacked' came the slow reply

"You shoulda told me" relpied the skull

"you shoulda asked"

The skeleton reclined once again against the stone wall, eyes locked on Flanders, wondering if he'd come willingly or put up a ruckus.

Gwalchmai stood and stretched. The conversation with the mini dragon seemed to have died down, the novelty worn off, apparently. He turned and looked down the large hall that stretched before them. He shuddered as though he were looking at his own grave, a sense of foreboding overcoming him. Doing his best to affect a tone of jaunty bravado, he declared, “Well, I’m not getting any younger. We had probably continue our journey.”

The others agreed, with various nods, exclamations of assent, and grumbles. They stood before the opening to the great hall, each contemplating the path before them, each unwilling to take the first step. Suddenly, Thantor spoke up. “There will be traps ahead. Allow me to proceed that I may detect them.”

This seemed logical to Gwalchmai, and it also made him think, not for the first time, how having someone with thieving skills would be an asset to their group. He wondered idly where Harry had gone off to, last being seen earlier in the day. This made him think of other missing members of their group, such as Georgi and Loner. Looking around at the current group, he had a sense that these were good friends, though it was amazing how much things had changed. He could hear Aegis, Nippy, and Bloodstalker returning from their patrol.

Wait. Where was the cat-lady? “Oh, crap,” he thought with a sigh, “Another missing member. Well, hopefully she’ll catch up.”

Thantor’s spell casting was complete, he began to lead the way down the hall. He pointed out trip wires and pressure plates that could be avoided. Random zones of the hall were guarded by intricate warding glyphs of fire and acid. Progress was slow as they walked their serpentine path, but uneventful.

At the far end of the hall, they stood before a large symbolic throne, freshly carved out of the living rock. Above the throne the wall was decorated with a huge design, depicting the open hand of a man, with a garish woman’s mouth set in the palm. The mouth was open, and appeared ravenous with sharp teeth. Open passageways lay to either side of the throne, and heat emanated from these. In the walls to the left and right, there were large, closed doors.

Thantor looked up at the great symbol above the throne, taking a step forward. “Moander,” he breathed.

Suddenly, Fang began to whimper.

The three hadn't gone far from the group, not wanting to put to much hostile ground between them and the Dark Flames. They moved with caution, the dank caves sending chills up their spines. Bloodstalker and Nippy walked half a pace behind Aegis, their swords drawn, and held tightly. Their muscles were taught, and ready topounce at the first sign of danger. In front of them, Aegis walked slowly, setting th pace. He inched forward, crossing one foot in front of the other. His back was haunched over slightly, and he held his bow in front of him, an arrow knotched, and ready to fire. Occassionally, his aim would snap off to the side, and down an adjacent tunnel, but just as fast, it would return to the front. He constanly swiveled his head around, taking advantage of his keen elven sight.

Finally, the cautious ranger halted his movement, and stood up straight. Nippy and Bloodstalker stopped as well.

"Perhaps I am just getting twitchy, being so far from the open areas of the wild." Aegis said calmly, turning to the two men behind him. "I apologize for bringing you two out here with me." Nippy began to shake his head. "The rest of them must be moving out by now. we should rejoin them." Aegis then turned back around, and looked into the darkness again. "But there is something unsettling about this. All of this."

"I agree, but as you said," Bloodstalker began, "The rest of them are probably on the move."

"Well, though no evil was smitten, it is probably for the best that nothing was out here." Nippy chimed in, glancing to Bloodstalker. "Shall we return then?"

Bloodstalker nodded.

"You two go ahead. I'll be with you in a moment." Aegis said, moving over to the side of the tunnel. "I just need to give my leg a moments rest."

"Alright, Aegis. It seems safe enough. We'll meet you back with the group." Bloodstalker said. Him and Nippy then turned around, and sheathing their weapons, began to walk back to the Dark Flames campsite.

Aegis leaned up against the wall, looking out into the darkness. He could've sworn he heard Saran's voice. Was it just his mind playing tricks on him? He shook his head, and loosened his grip on his bow. Maybe he was just getting shaken from the lack of rest he had gotten, and the fact he was in an uncomfortable location. He pushed himself up off the wall, and began to walk back to the camp. The heat signatures of Nippy and Bloodstalker were now faint.

"Aegis...."

The ranger stopped in his tracks, and spun around, looking behind him. His sight was greeted by the encompassing darkness.

"I've missed you... My love..."

The words echoed and hissed in the tunnels, barely audiable, almost a whisper, but the ranger could hear them as if they were being spoken right next to him. The temperature of the tunnels suddenly dropped, and Aegis drew his cloak in tighter about him. Mist was begining to creep along the tunnel floor, and the elf's breath was coming out as steam.

"Why did you leave me?"

Aegis spun about again, trying to find the source of the voice, but unsuccessfully. "Where are you?" Aegis called into th darkness.

"Can't you see me..."

Aegis turned around again. As his face came about, a dark shadow lunged from the darkness, her fangs bared, a loud hissing noise emanating from her throat. Aegis fell back, loosing his arrow in a flash. He watched it strike firmly into the womans right lung, but it didn't slow her. Within a second, the woman was upon the ranger, knocking him to the ground, trying to bring her fangs to the elf's throat. A vampire, Aegis finally realized. With one hand, he desperatly tried to push her back, struggling to keep himself safe. With his other, he fumbled with thescabbared that kept Sunfang at his hip. He felt his already tired muscles weaken even more. When he finally felt the sword move freely, he gave a push, rolling the woman off of him. He rolled in the opposite direction, drawing his blade at the same moment. For a breif instant, Aegis froze, sword poised to attack. The woman was crouching now, lingering breifly. The two stood, sizing each other up...

Mysteria sighed as Aegis went away with Bloodstalker and Nippy, partly relieved, partly worried that he'd get into trouble again. Well, the two men would probably be capable of dealing with any problem Aegis could unearth, so she should better stop worrying. Straightening up, she eyed Dragon Wench's little dragon, but she had barely had time to get a decent look when they were already moving again.

Keeping Fang closely at her heel, she followed the rest of the Dark Flames along the trapped corridor, trying not to glance back at every other step to see if Aegis and the other two were joining them. Finally, they stopped in front of a sort of garish altar and the air had an unhealthy feel to it. Fang whinced uneasily, but stopped when she put a hand on his back. Toying with her bow, she closed her eyes ...

'Calm, calm, don't panic ...', she pushed back the fear that the strange corridor induced in her. 'I'm a tree ... I'm a calm tree ... nothing can touch me ... We're all trees ... a whole forest of them ...

She snapped her eyes open as she felt her skin crawl, turning firmer. 'Oh, great! Now we're all trees... She was looking sadly at the bark that had replaced her own and her companions skins when Yshania interrupted her thoughts "I didn't know you could cast barkskin".

"Bark ...? Ah, eh .. neither did I...", she looked at her skin again, still confused, but somehow glad that for once she had done something useful.

Fang appeared to calm himself for a moment as Mysteria gently stroked his fur, but suddenly started to howl again and pawed at his own ears. “Fang! What’s wrong?” Mysteria knelt next to her wolf as it yelped and whined. “I’ve never seen him act this way.” She looked pleadingly at the rest of the group.

Gwalchmai wondered if Mysteria’s transformation into a bark-covered woman might have something to do with Fang’s discomfort. He suddenly worried that Fang might think that Mysteria actually was a tree, and might be in need of a ‘potty break’. He rejected this hypothesis as he watched the wolf try to bury it ears against Mysteria. “This is certainly unusual behavior for an animal. He seems to hear something…. But what?”

Thantor unsheathed his maces. “I have a suspicion. The Shambler mentioned ‘Mouth Things’…..” T’lainya nodded and began casting Chaotic Commands on herself.

Gwalchmai wasn’t sure what to make of Thantor’s cryptic comments, but felt it would be prudent to prepare for battle. He manifested a Spirit Animal, a large snake, and was considering invoking Iron Skins when suddenly the door to the right slid open, revealing the source of Fang’s discomfort.

Gibbering Mouthers! Two of them! Murky, fluid, fleshy creatures that constantly changed shape, forming and un-forming multiple eyes and fanged mouths at random locations over their bodies. They each sprouted a half-dozen strings of proto-flesh, with vicious mouths at the ends. The mouths looked as though they could inflict a nasty, grabbing bite, which would then suction the victim’s blood.

The first Mouther simultaneously launched its two main attacks; it shot out a stream of spittle that ignited upon contact with the air, creating a blinding flash of light. Gwalchmai tried to shield himself from the flash, but still found his vision blurred with dancing spots of red. At the same time, the cacophonous sound made by the constant gibbering of all the mouths talking at once affected him. This is one of the most insidious attacks of the Mouther, causing Confusion to those who hear. Only prepared individuals or those with significant will power can withstand the confounding affects of the gibbering. Unfortunately, Gwalchmai was not prepared, and the peacefulness of his mind was overtaken by the chaos of the voices he heard. His Spirit Snake, however, was not so affected, and moved to protect him.
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

The wound on Aqua-chan's side stung, despite the fact that it had been taken care of with curative magics and potions. However, because she had lost so much blood from the wound, she felt weak and unstable: more than once she came to the point of almost passing out. However, she pushed herself on; urging herself forward with constant words of how this was the only way she's ba able to escape her already-doomed fate.

Traps were scattered here and there, but because of her keen eyes, she was able to detect them early on before she hit the trip wires. She even hit a Crusher trap: set so that the two walls on either side of the cavern would quickly smash together when the trip cord was stepped on, crushing the victim and always killing them, despite what magical protection they may have had. After the Crusher trap, the woman decided to slow down a little and keep a better eye out for warning signs of more traps.

She continued to wander around, unsure of where she was going exactly. She was pretty lost, and for a short time even considered turning around and going back. But doing that would mean sure death by either the Shadow Druids or the Dark Flames, whichever she chose to face.

Oh, Danti... she thought to herself, remembering the best friend she had ever known in her adventuring days, What would you tell me to do if you were still here?

That was the one party Aqua-chan ever felt at home with. It was small, but tightly woven together as a family. Danti, the human fighter with a severe sense of love and joy that made Aqua-chan wish he had never "vanished", as he did so mysteriously that one fateful night.

Then there was Alora. Alora had taught Aqua-chan everything she knew about thieving, and even started treating her as though she were a cousin or a younger sister. Since then, Alora had gone to keep living in Baldur's Gate while Aqua-chan headed South into Amn, and eventually met the Shadow Druids. Alora always had a good heart, and Aqua-chan missed that as much as she missed Danti.

Then, there was that strange old man, Tiax. What a charactor, he was... Very strange... Luckily, Aqua-chan never heard from that guy again, and really didn't care to.

Then, a loud *twing* caught her ear. The Totemic theif snapped out of her daydreams as her foot tripped when the thin but sturdy wire held it back, and she was barely quick enough to see the both of the walls starting to move inwards at an alarmingly fast rate.

BS and Nippy were walking easily back towards the DF camp. The patrol had turned up nothing, but still BS was worried. He trusted Aegis's judgment, and was more unsettled than comforted at the apparent peacfulness of the tunnel they had just left.

His thoughts were broken by a peicing howl from ahead, followed by...he couldn't make out the sound, but it didn't seem friendly. Drawing their swords, Nippy and BS started ahead towards the group, when another sound caused them to come to a skittering halt.

"Who are you?" came the voice from behind them. BS looked over at Nippy.

"Damn, now what?" he asked.

"We seem to be in the middle" came the reply.

"So, which way?"

Nippy pondered for a split second. "Aegis is alone"

"Yeah, and he's got a bad leg"

Nippy and BS turned back and sped down the tunnel back to where they had left the ranger.
