I have always used a fighter as my main character all through the other RPG BioWare games. I just got rather bored with it. So I decided to eat my pizza the wrong way. I decided to play a halfling rogue. It has been a very different kind of game. No longer can I just run around hitting the punny creatures on the head. I have to hide, be agile, and pock them in the head. It's great

Ranger all the way :)
As for restarting BGII, I only did so about 3 times until I created a dual katana wielding stalker with the celestial fury and that other great katana (forgot its name) wearing the white dragon armor $$

7 monk/7 rogue (swashbuckler)/6 sorc. I love the multiclassing, with your feet on so many worlds. Because I don´t have so many hp´s I must rely on tactics and cunning, instead of "see monster, bash monster" style. And of course, can switch tactics by enemy.
If spellcaster, get close and giv´em steel. If fighter types, use spells like Darkness, and sneak attack them. Can fight reasonably well without weapons, can handle weapon well. Funniest fight were when in the middle of 12 or so enemies casted a Darkness, and then it was sneak attack galore. :D :p

I'm playing a human ranger because I've never been a ranger before and I wanted the dual-wield, which is so cool. I went thru most of Ch. 2 with the poison and ice swords, a most effective combo, then switched out the ice sword for the fire mace.

And I love...hmm...I mean...I really like Tomi, we make a very effective team.

Now I am trying out Cleric, the most unbalanced class in the entire game. You get Searing light (no save), and later Blade barrier (Maxed for 120 damage), and Word of faith that stuns anything. Finally, Harm. (if you seen Linu use it, then you know how powerful this thing is). Cleric is also the best Dueling class (I know Monks can get pretty powerful at lv 20, but they can be turned by Clerics that has the good/evil domain)

Really? Do monks count as outsiders, or is there more to those domains than the manual states (as far-fetched as that possibility may sound  )?

Also, the monks immunity to mind-affecting spells wouldn't counter that?

Yup, Monk counts as Outsiders at lv 20, I believe Turning bypasses everything. It doesn't really count as a Mind-Effecting spell or ability. With enough Charisma modifiers, Clerics gets to turn Slaads, Balors, Liches, you name it.

I'm on my first game/character, and I'm playing an elven ranger/rogue. I always liked the ranger class, and thought it was underpowered/underutilized in the previous D&D games. Since it's primarily a solo game, I wanted the stealth capabilities and I love the high DEX w/dual wielding/parrying capabilities. I wanted to play a straight ranger all the way, but it gets so annoying carrying around Tomi, or having to go back for him to open tough trapped chests...I just added a rogue level. The sneak attack made a nice addition to my arsenal.
