Will someone tell me briefly what American football is all about?
Aim, important rules, scoring etc is all I need. All I know about it is what I can pick up from that scene near the end of M.A.S.H

Also, does everyone in the US know the rules to American football? Can everyone play it?

I played Offensive Tackle for a year in high school.

Well what can I explain first. Theres a lot to the game-so I dont know how well I can explain it.

A team kicks off and the other team recieves-their goal is to reach the endzone. 100 yards seperate both endzones. A team can run or pass to get to that destination. If you drop the ball and the other team picks it up then the other team gets possession. If the other team intercepts the ball while the other team is passing than the interceptor gets the ball. If you reach the endzone, then you get 6 points-you get to kick the ball to the endpost on the 2yard line to get an extra point after the touchdown. If you dont make the endzone you can still try for a field goal, by kicking the ball from its location on the field to try to get it in between the end post. Each team has 4 downs to begin with. If you gain 10 yards in between each 4 downs then the downs reset. Example: If youre in the 2nd down with 6 yards left and you get 6 yards or more-it goes back to first down and you advance in the field in the process. If you run out of downs, it is turned over to the other team. There is more to it than that, but thats the big basic thing. OK?

Yeah.. .It's so true...

Also, to add to Ty's explaination. When compared to Canadian Football, American football is mild. Us Canucks play with an extra ten yards, and no safeties.
