Does it matter when I give my rogue a level of ranger for ambidex? Now lvl 3 rogue

and intending at next level up to give 1 lvl of ranger. Did I wait 2 long to do this or is it fine after rogue 3rd level?

Why does it matter? Anytime is fine. Do it after 3 levels, 10 levels, or 20 levels.
