The Daystar Longsword
This isn't a very serious problem, but I've got a question about the Daystar. It says in its description that it's +2 normally, and +4 against evil creatures. I had to fight a greater mummy on the second level of the Asylum dungeon, and somehow it was considered ineffective against it. Minc's Flail of the Ages, which is +3, could hurt it, however. What gives?

Yep, Daystar is my personal favorite weapon in the game. Unfortuantely, it gets a raw deal. It should be considered +4 vs. evil, as the description says, but alas, it is only +2. It's still cool, though. Took out 5 of the 6 vamps in windspear hills with one blast of the sunray from this sword. It rocks.

That's how I use it. It's devastating.

Weapon ineffective:
You always get this message if the attack is averted by resistance to a given type of the weapon (slashing, etc.). It means sometimes that the weapon is really no use (100 vs. this weapon type) but it means in many cases that the particlular attack was averted by weapon resistance. Greater mummy has 50 vs. slashing weapons, therefore: was your Daystar "ineffective" repeatedly? At least 4 or 5 times? Also, Greater Mummy has 50 vs. crushing weapons. What was "effective"? The weapon itself or its magic attack (fire, acid or cold)?

It can be confusing, without a monster list (Buck???) to know what creature is affected by what weapon.
I didn't think Gt Mummies needed +3 weapons. Sounds like is only the slashing damage they're resisting.
Watch your msg window too - things like the flail of ages with plusses from fire/ice etc. can sometimes be resisted, but not the main attack.

often it has happened to me that the extra damage from magic weapons occurs even if the main attack doesn't.
example: i wielded the frostreaver axe and it hit the 1 acid and the 1 ice, but my character said weapon innefective

1. Greater Mummy:
20 9 9 16 17 9, AC -4, thac0 3, HP 104, LE, lvl 14, all saving throws 1(!!), fire and magic fire -25, acid, cold, magic cold and electricity 100, magic 0, slashing, crushing, piercing 50, missile 80.
2. Flail of Ages:
It does 1 HP of acid, fire and electricity damage. In fact, the flail has 4 attacks whenever it strikes: 1 physical as a flail +3 and 3 magical (fire, etc.) The creature hit by the flail saves against all attacks separately: it can save vs. physical attack and fail his save vs. fire and so on. The same is true for all weapons with additional attacks (Frostreaver, Gessen Bow and so on).

Just a little clarification. Resistance vs damage is difference from magic resistance.
With magical resistance you roll as save and either it takes effect completely or it doesn't do anything.
With damage resistance (fire, acid, slashing, etc) you take that much less damage. So, if a character with 50% electrical resistance is hit by electricity for 50 hp it would take 25.

Carsomyr was effective, every time. The greater mummy was only one example; there are plenty of others. The Daystar was ineffective against Kangaxx, or any lich, for that matter. It was useless against Balor. In every case, this was totally ineffective, not just one or two isolated incidents. I assume this is because tough creatures can only be hit by +3 or greater weapons, or in Kangaxx's case, +4 or better. The Daystar is supposedly a +4 weapon against all evil creatures, but I guess that's not really the case.Originally posted by Radek:

Daystar is a +2 weapon. It is an example of misleading people by Bioware: they pretend that Daystar is +4 vs. evil creatures. NO! It is still +2 weapon. You only get bonus to your thac0 and damage. Hey, Bioware! When do we get a correct information about weapons? And about weapon immunities (I mean weapon level here) of creatures?
