I, again, thought the firstfive minutes were hillarious. I loved in the theater how the laugh just got bigger and bigger with every face. Just the theory of the Minnie me actor brought laughs to eveyone I descricbed it to. :D
I really liked some of Dr. Evil's lines and expresion- 'How 'bout no you sick Dutch Bastard!' :D
Michael Caine was great, but Connery would have been better. What's better than James Bond, in a movie Spoofing James Bond, making fun of James Bond
That is quite strange, i never really liked any of the Austin Powers films, i laugh at them but i don't find them exactly riviting or essential viewing.

I was the only person to laugh at Spacey's cameo  where as the Mini Me cameo was appreciated by everyone.

What was that whole thing with slurrs against the Dutch, it was quite funny i just didn't see why...?

True, but Caine can act in different guises, Connery is always Connery ;)
I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.

...and Connery is always great! (PS the Avengers was a momentary lapse, so Sir Sean cannot be blaimed! :D )

I saw some interesting trailers lately-

The second trailer for Scorsese's Gangs of New York. It really looks like an amazing movie, despite Dicaprio and Diaz
Daniel Day Lewis seems to have a not too bad American accent for the 3 1/2 seconds he was on.

The second trailer for The Two Towers. It's weird, the more I see this, I expect the movie less and less, since it highlights everything I hated about FoTR, and also shows their bad choice for Wormtongue. Although it still looks better than FoTR, which, unless my opinion improves with the DVD, I have a lot of comlaints about.

The new James Bond- Die Another Day. It looks like the worst movie to come out this year. Just awful- not one ounce of intelligence, just action. I hope I miss this one.

One Hour Photo- This looks like a very interesting movie. It apparently stars Robin Williams as a creepy guy at a one hour photo shop, who looks into the pictures and starts stalking a certain family, who he knows all about because of their pictures.

Sorry - I seem to have been off-world when all the trailers were being shown. Who will be playing Wormtongue?

What did I dislike? well, only one of the most important parts- Elijah Wood.
I believe he is one of the worst actors to disgrace the screen with his presence. He is a terrible actor, has one of the most terrible British accent I've ever heard- and is a guy who I can't understand how I'm supposed to identify with. He ruined the books for me- I can't read the books with out seeing his face, so I find myself thinking 'Saruman is the good guy in all of this- he wants to kill the little dworf who I hate so much!'

Aside from that- Galadriel was done absolutly terribly, by another one of the most annoying actors ever put on screen.

I find myself really hating the movie- it's a cheap money making stunt. It is a project that will for sure be a hit, surving nurishment for fans and eye candy for new comers.

I had a different vision of certain things- and it sticks Mr. Jackson's interpitation of Tolkein's books in my head, so I can no longer enjoy the book- which is the worst part of it all.

I hate the movie for getting to #4 on the imdb chart of best movies, for a time even unseating the godfather.

I am now forced to watch the movie as a story vaguely farmiliar unfolding before my eyes, not the Lord of the Rings which I used to love and now despise.

From a purely moviemaking perspective- it's a great achievement, which, except for my own personal input- is a success on every level, though still nowhere near the best movie of all times, or the top 10, or the top 50 for that matter.

I will still probably watch the DVD I bought for $21.99 when I get back home (I'm leaving here on Tuesday night) and enjoy the good parts of it- Ian McKellen, the music, the great bad guys (Especialy the nine horsemen of the apocalypse).

I have always been anti popular trends, so my opinion towards anything pop culture is always going to be somewhat negative- although I do truely and honestly hate Elijah Wood.

It was a great movie- I didn't really find it freaky. but I loved the ways it tried to scare (I'm immune to fear in movies)- many of them were simply ingenious. (especialy the music and, as I said the cinematography)

Have you gone back and read LoTR since seeing the film? I think you'll find that even with the pictures from the film in your mind, the book is so vivid that it will make whole new pictures for you, especially if you read it before seeing the movie - you would have to have an extremely weak imagination to think of the pictures of the film rather than the ones that Tolkien allows you to bring up for yourself :)

Morlock i never knew you felt this way, i must have missed your reviews due to me not wanting to ruin it, i manage to get every film about 2 months after most people  I agree with you about Elijah Wood, he just gets on my nerves, he has some kind of acting ability but there are far better actors for that part, even Toby Maguire would have been more appropriate. Saruman is the hero...isn't he? :D

Believe me, I've tried. The only book I can really enjoy now is 'The Hobbit', because the acting of it's characters was great. Everybody agrees that Gandalf is great, and I've neither heard nor have any complaints towards Bilbo.

I'm actualy looking forward more to Harry Potter 2 than TTT, just because I know the wondurfuly evil Jason Isaacs is in it, and I can assure myself the music will be new and fantastic.
OK, that's taking it too far, as TTT looks significantly better than FoTR. And Bernard Hill seems to fit perfectly as His character.

The Touch

Starring Michelle Yeoh, Ben Chaplin

Some of you might remember Michelle as Bond Girl. ;) The movie based upon the legend of Dun Huang and the treasure of Dun Huang. Michelle plays a stepdaughter of Uncle Ping, monk who's disguised as travelling acrobats. The monks are the ones who inherit the treasure secret location from generation to generation.

The story quite fast paced, yet you can see Michelle acrobatic moves and a stunning photographic panorama. For those you've seen Jackie Chan's "Armour of God" you might think it's the same as the movie. Well what can I say ? It's kungfu action movie anyway. Quite refreshing for a hectic weekend :)

Rating : 3 1/2 out of 5 star

I have been watching so many movies lately, as I just came back from a great vacation with about 2 douzen movies to occupy me.
Here's a brief and partial rundown:

The Caine Mutiny:
It is a 1954 movie, based on the book by Herman Wouk, a friend of my family's. It is about a mutiny on an American ship during world war two, seemingly brought about by the ship's XO, who took control of the ship when the captain (played brilliantly by Humphry Bogart) froze during a crisis, and then the court marshal afterwards. Only after the ships officers are found not guilty does it come out that it was all brought about by a Lieutenant Keefer, for his own puposes.
This is one of the best acted films I've seen in a while.
It is the best acting by Humphry Bogart I've ever seen (I hated Casablanca :o ), and a great supporting cast, most notably Fred McMurray as Keefer, the great Jose Ferrer as Greenwald, the attorney who defends the mutinous officers and E.G. Marshal as the prosecuting attorney.
I'm surprised Bogart took the role, as the character of Captain Queeg is a nervous, paranoid, and largely incompetent man trying to hide these facts.

The movie is one of the best adaptations I've ever seen, and is simply a great movie.
8/10

Young Frankenstein:
I finaly saw this Mel Brooks 'classic'.
It was terrible. The only thing in the movie which garnered a single laugh was Gene Hackman's cameo, and even that was funny just because of the idea of a huge actor as a blind man, not because of the dialogue.
I was counting the minutes till it was over, hoping that the time on the cover included credits.
I've found that the two only Brooks' film I actualy liked were his later ones, and 'Spaceballs' and 'Robin Hood Men in Tights' are two of the funniest movies I've ever seen- but I was hugely dissapointed by 'Blazing Saddles', and thought 'The Producers' could have been so much better.
EDIT: I just remembered History of the World part one, and have to change my statement. The THREE Brooks' films I actualy liked....

How people liked this movie- I'll never know
3/10

Miller's Crossing:
In trying to complete my Coen brothers' anthology, I came across this movie which I have searched for for a year, which is like a magnet to me because of-
A. I love the Coen Brothers
B. I love Albert Finney
C. I love intelligent gangster movies
It both reached and exceded my expectations.
I found myself thinking- this is like 'Gone with the Wind' in one way- It has a deplorable main character, who you have no idea how your gonna be able to watch him/her for an entire movie, but it's worth it, just for the rare appearences by Rhett/Leo.
The gangster scenes were really done well-
When Finney punches Byrne down the stairs, and is followed by his army of gunners, you really get the feeling of his supreme authority.
Like wise, when he is attacked at his home, and he kills all of the attackers by himself, it shows you that he is a really hands on gangster (reminicent of the Irish gangster Deanie O'banion). I love the shot of Finney lying in his bed, reading a paper and listening to a record of 'Danny Boy', humming along.
The scenes with the Police and Mayor switching sides are great, and especialy how Byrne fits in each time, but on opposite sides.

A masterpiece.
That leaves only 'Barton Fink' to complete my Coen experiense.
Possibly my favorite Coen to date.
9/10

Far and Away:
A movie which story I hated just by seeing the tagline, but I still looked all over New York to get it, as it features one of John Williams greatest scores, and IMO the best Celtic music ever in a soundtrack.
I really don't have much to say about the movie. It was not a good movie, aside from a couple of impresive visuals and a very
good preformance by the always charming Colm Meany ;) .
Overall rating: 6/10
Accent rating: 2/10
Music Rating: 10/10

Superman:
Surprisingly enough, I found that Inever saw the entire movie before!
This, just like Far and Away, I got mainly for the great music by John Williams.
As such, I, again, didn't really pay too much attention to the movie.

As a 'Dallas' fan, I loved Larry Hagman's cameo as the Major:
[Miss Teschmacher is posing as the victim of a car wreck.]
Sergeant: She's having trouble breathing sir. What do you suggest?
Major: Um, I suggest a vigorous chest massage, and if that doesn't work, uh, mouth-to-mouth.
Sergeant: [enthusiastically] Yes, sir!
[Bends to the task. The Major pulls him to his feet.]
Major: Sergeant, I wouldn't have one of my men do something I wouldn't be prepared to do myself.
:D :D :D

Gene Hackman was in his usual great acting mode. He is really the perfect person to play Luther, or at least the movie's Luther (He wouldn't fit as the comic book's Luther).

The music is wonderfull, with the world famous Superman theme, one which I think I'm safe in saying that it's one of the most recognisable movie themes of all times.

Overall rating: 7/10
Music rating: 9/10

I also saw 'Minority Report' again here. It just keeps getting better with repeated viewings- this time I paid special attention to Colin Farrel, who was marvelous in the movie. Best acted part in the movie, as a matter fact. He has some great expretions- I specialy love the one where he smiles to Cruise right before resuming his chase, and the great face he makes when he realizes that Cruise is in the car on the other side of the glass.
Movie Rating: 9/10

Finally saw "We Were Soldiers" on DVD.

Despite the prospect of Randall Wallace and Mel Gibson, again, I really enjoyed this.

Awesome and realistic (to a horrifying extent), I really got a feel this was a true "anti" war movie, along the lines of Gallipoli.

It certainly adressed some tough issues, such as not coming home to a welcome. And for once, the "home" front wasn't just a tacky romance, you really got the feeling the wives were fighting their own war, their own hell. Both sides were looked at too (brief but what do you expect).

Most of all, it was close to the book, which is still better.

One of the better Vietnam movies. A fitting tribute to brave men.

I recently saw Nosferatu- Symphony Of Horrors, and it has somewhat rekindled my desire to purchase the DVD version.

The first vampire tale, and arguably the best and scariest one ever. Shreck was a brilliant and so was Marnau(sp?) the director in his use of shadows and angles. The scenes in which the elongated hand of the Count reaching out to its victim is a classic. Watch it if you ever get the chance and avoid that rubbish 70's version.

Was at a net party this weekend and saw: 13th Gosth.
Boy that movie sucked. Okay (some) effects were nice but damit, to much slasher (blod and gore all over) and to little story over it.
Not really any shock effect in it either - cause it doesn't surprise anyway:
... person looks throug glass - gosth pops up *buh*
... person turns around and looks at nothing, turns back, gets a hammer in the face (or something, was half asleep) *buh*

Bad movie.

Also saw American Pie II, was somewhat funny, again no great story, but people wacthing these "teen-lust" movies aren't expecting stories (or so I really really hope :D ) :) .
But at 4 am. in the morning after haven't slept for 2 days, it is really funny :D

Sum of all Fears:

Clancy, basically that name says it all about this film, it is entertaining like every other Clancy book to film but it isn't exactly art.

Anyone who cares it is a story about Russian and US disagreement that leads to some pretty explosive sequences.

As I say it is quite entertaining and Affleck does provide a credible lead hero, Morgan Freeman is great as usual and there is a great performance by Liev Schrieber...as usual. That pretty much sums the film up; everything is as usual, not terrible but not exactly brilliant but at the same time it is worth watching. The length of the movie is also perfect in my opinion.

Saw The Bourne Identity today. OK movie, one of Damon´s better, actually... Fantastic soundtrack, too!
Icewind Gate II Improved engine, third edition rules and the full BG2 storyline.
