I love thief/mages. I get a kick out of shooting a fireball, then zipping around a corner and hiding, or luring them with my arrows into the ice storm.
but then you have imoen AND nalia who are the same thing, this we are trying to avoid right?

OK, I've been reading this forum for a long time, and finally decided to register.
I love theives as they are the most versatile characters. I use every one of their skills.
The funnest character I have ever played is a dual Kensai(9)/Theif. I found by the time I got to level 13, my backstabs averaged 180-200. I used the theif script where I was constantly hidden. The equipment was a Katana with initials CF, and the boots of speed. Most battles, I would run in behind the biggest baddie, and cream him. I was a good enough fighter to stay and finish off the rest of the bunch.
I also like the little bit of extra fun of laying traps. Run in, whack for 180-200 point, then run back over my traps and chunks would fly.
The other fun tactic for baddies is Back Stab, run away, hide, repeat. I don't feel cowardly, because I'm a theif.
I first played this character in a MP game with an UH and a bounty hunter(11) dualled to mage. I eventually got bored with the other two characters and just used my Kensai/Theif.
I have also used a halfling swashbuckler (too boring without the backstab). I tried a Assasin fighter (got bored). And I solo'd with a Kensai/Mage/Theif. (I used SK for the Kensai part.) I added the mage for the spells and the wands, but didn't end up using either very often.
I highly recommend the Kensai/Theif the CF. I found myself laughing my but off with this guy, and loved all the different tactics I got to try.

Another vote for the Kensai/Thief. I know it's obscenely against the spirit of role-playing to have your kensai wear armor and use funky weaponry, but for sheer power, dual at 13 and wait for UAI. You're weak in the beginning when your kensai class is inactive, but shouldn't be too big of a deal, since thieves tend to level up very very fast.
For some crazy damage, the classic is a celestial fury backstab on kai. The way I played it last time was with 2 stars in two-handed weapon, 5 stars in two-handed sword and the rest in dagger. Wear the improved Valygar armor (w/ item upgrade mod) wielding vorpal sword or soul reaver or carsomyr (the carsomyr+soul reaver combo sword is killer!!) and change over to one of the nasty daggers for backstab. Great character, looks great with imp. Corthala armor & helm of the rock and scores some insane hits, backstab of course and otherwise.

To Skuld. Simply Cause I'm so bored with Jan and I need a party without him and then you have to have a thief and Imoen you first get in chapter 6 and Nalia isnt going to last. And Imoen neither when you get to ToB. There you'll need a better thief than her and If not Jan then who??!? Thats why that I would be very pleased if somebody told me where I could find some good NPC's who are thiefs.... Or Just NPC in general
If you feel the need to meet someone cooler, prettier, meaner and deadlier than good old Jan, maybe you're looking for Valen ?
Hope it helps

Valen DOES look good Serje.....
But, downloading the 280MB Darkest Day-Mod on my Snailly-Slow internet access doesn't seem like a great idea.
If this problem is fixed, I'll be glad to add her to my party!

Beg pardon?
The Valen Mod is some 320K to download, and TheDarkestDay is not required at all!
