Dark Alliance
So, Bladur's Gate comes to the PS2 in the form of Dark Alliance.
Anybody played this? I would really want to play it and see if it's about as good as the saga on the pc.
I just downloading the trailer and so far it's looking good.
Problem is I don't have a PS2 , is it illigal to play it on the pc with a emulator? (probably need to buy a real copy right?)
Well, post all your thoughts about the PS2 game and the PS2 here.

Dark Alliance looks like a fun game. If I had the money, I'd buy a PS2 and the game; but I don't have the money. Maybe I can convince my friend, who has a PS2, to get Dark Alliance, then play it at his house.

Sounds like a plan!
I saw a review today on the tv, and it looks more like a hack and slach but the game looks very nice!
The ingame water is beautyfull!!
I'm planning on buying the game and then use an emulator to play it on the pc, but I'm not sure it will work...
The game is solo btw. It's not possible to group up with other characters. And you have to use an pre gen character...

I decided to pick up a PS2 when the price dropped a little, and was lookin into Dark Alliance, too. Ratings say it's good if you're a Powergamer, but the roleplay aspect is kind of dull. I would like to see if anyone has any commentary on it in here, as well. I know Tibby has played it, but I'd like a few more opinions before I run out and buy it.

Indeed I have played that. How did you know that, AC? I dont think Ive ever informed anyone online about that.
Regardless, it was a lot of fun. I did it one player and 2 player with my brother, and it was addicting for a couple weeks. The graphics, though, that was the beautiful part of the game. I LOVED the graphics. I was actually thinking of getting back into the game, cause I havent played it for a few months.
I also loved the fact that there were creatures that are in D&D rules that are not commonly used in computer games like the Bullette (One of my favorites! ) and Displacer Beasts which are very cool creatures aswell. Im surprised theyve never been used before in any other games that I know of.
But I give it a 9/10 only because the game sort of ends a little too soon. I think there might be a sequel for it though.

“Caw, Caw!” The call of the wild calls you. Are you listening? Do you dare challenge their power? Do you dare invade? Nature will always triumph in the end.

For a hack´n´slash game, it´s awesome, but it´s a poor RPG. You don´t get to make any real choices, and it´s pretty one-dimensioned. The graphics are great, though, and the gameplay is good too.
I only wish they had done the character creation option...

Icewind Gate II Improved engine, third edition rules and the full BG2 storyline.

So with DA, you can play it two player and work together. Sort of sounds like Zelda with friends.
The graphics do look impressive, and I had considered purchasing it for xbox. The multiplayer aspect will sell it for me though. Tyb, when you get back here, if you would be so kindly, please outline and detail a little of the multiplayer experience.
Note: with this game I certainly don't expect much roleplaying, but if the action is good and the multiplayer is rewarding I might get it.

Well my brother played the warrior and I played the long range, archerer. The main aggravation factor about multiplayer on the PS2 is that you both use the same screen for 2 different characters. So that causes a problem. So what the game does is have the 1 screen try to show both characters on the screen. If one person moves too far away from the other character, he runs in place until the person in the back catches up. This is hard to explain.....do you understand what Im saying? Regardless, this took some getting used to, but through communication, it all works out. Also, if one of the players dies, there is a place in every area where theres a "checkpoint" where you can save the game, or in multi player if someone dies, the player who still lives has to go back to the last checkpoint to see the killed player get ressurected. So its not exactly D&D rules, but its still fun. I think I had more fun multiplayer than 1 player because I so rarely get a chance to play such games in multiplayer.Originally posted by Ned Flanders

Any other questions, Ned?

Yes, the multiplayer part is really fun, especially when you run about, really powerful, hacking tons of goblins to bits and pieces. Holding all the L & R buttons when selecting your character allows you to play as drizzt, a really cool feature IMO.
He can only use Twinkle and Icingdeath, and his appearance dosn´t change when you change his armor, but it´s still awesome.

There is basically no RPG to it, but if you want a hack n slash it's probably the best there is. Me and my friend got addicted and beat the whole thing in one night (up till 7 am lol). It's pretty short, but you can play through again on harder difficulty if you want. Overall a very good game, especially if you can get a friend to play with you.
I need a sig.
Ah...thats the lyrics to my song. Except the fact I didnt beat it in a day. A few days of non-stop playing for about 7 hours straight, and the game was beaten. As I said, the main disadvantage is that the game ends sort of early. But also, if you are in search for RPG, this shouldnt be at the top of your list. But I still rank it a 9/10 because it IS a good game.Originally posted by AntiChrist

Alright. Just on a spontaneous whim last night (And I still CAN NOT believe I did this! ) I went and bought myself a Playstation 2, and Dark Alliance to go on it. eek: )
My review: I only had an hour to play on it (It took me up until bed time to get the console hooked up) and I have to say, overall, it's quite fun. The graphics remind a bit of Neverwinter, but I like how easy it is to change views at will.
The preset charactors are not on my favorites list. I wanted to play a Druid, but had to stick with the Sorceress, Adrianna.
Set on normal mode, I was killed by large rats four times.
I'm still looking for one rat so I can continue on with the game (Where is that thing, Tibbs?!)
The controls are somewhat difficult to figure out, but when you do get them, the game is pretty easy to configure. Just remember that Square is universal action, X is attack, and you're in the clear.
May leave more of a Review later after I play it some more.

Yeah, I wish there were druids aswell, having the option of only 3 characters is another negative I forgot to mention, but its easily to deal with.
I wouldnt recommend starting with the sorceress, shes the hardest of the 3-I would have started with the warrior then gotten used to the game, then done what ever character I felt like.
The rat? There are several rats! You expect me to memorize where every bloody rat is? It should be around somewhere....

Well, my partner was using the Fighter, so he was supposed to cover me while I attacked with spells and such, but he kept dieing, then I died, and so on and so forth...
There is ONE rat that I can't find anywhere. I even found a secret door somewhere, it that rat was not in there. I've spent a good half-hour looking for it, too.The rat? There are several rats! You expect me to memorize where every bloody rat is? It should be around somewhere....
