So......What is it?

I think it was fable's idea, that we should have a forum about DD. So i'll like to ask him, whats this game all about. I have never heard of it. I take it's an RPG but thats actually what I think I know.

Well, it's a 2D CRPG that combines Ultima VIII with Diablo II. There's the ability to use all sorts of things you come across, as in the Ultima series, but thestats are only four in number, and you can embed jewels in some weapons to create magical effects. Frankly, I think it's an improvement over the Diablo stuff, because the game allows you to design your own character with 90 skills to select from--avoiding Diablo II's forcing you to choose between only a very few skill paths.

There's also an engaging sense of humor to the thing. I briefly watched a pair of skeletons reflecting existentially on how odd it was that they could actually talk without any lungs.

There are problems to the game. I think the Diablo-inspired dungeons are far inferior to the external, Ultima-inspired battles, in large part because those Diablo dungeons were booooring, endless treks through identical caverns; and you always knew that at the end, there was a stupid, slightly more powerful boss monster waiting for you with goodies. But still, it's a pretty decent RPG, and one I'm enjoying. :)

Is it deep, roleplaying-wise? Or is it hack 'n' slash, like Diablo? (from what you've said, I'm assuming the latter...)

I read a couple of reviews and it seems to be a combination of BG, Diablo and some other RPG-games. They say it's a good game but nothing revolutionary.
I tried to download the demo but my computer has a problem with authority these days so he froze up on me twice during the download.

I'd say it's pretty good as an RPG, alternating periods of exploration, conversation, problem-solving and non-stop fighting. The dungeons (as opposed to the overland battles) are for me the worst of it, because I've never cared for the Diabloesque all-dungeons-alike atmosphere, or the dumb bosses waiting at the end of each level. I want strategy in my fights, and variety, as in BG2's dungeons. But I will say that they did catch me with the lowest level of their initial dungeon, where you run into a group of perfectly friendly undead. :D

Well youve gotten my attention. Im going to have to find some good screenshots and a little background. Ive been waiting for another RPG to come out, and I thought Id be in for the wait until the expansion for Morrowind were to come out....maybe not. Can anyone direct me to a place that has screenshots, or is that not possible?
“Caw, Caw!” The call of the wild calls you. Are you listening? Do you dare challenge their power? Do you dare invade? Nature will always triumph in the end.

Ah, here I was just coming to GB to suggest a DD forum be started. Should have known Fable would have it set it even before I asked :D

Picked up DD last night, and I'm having an absolute blast with it. It's almost a cross between fallout and diablo. The sense of humor Fable mentions is definitely there, as are some rather cool minor innovations (the teleport stones rock).

Try this: http://users.pandora.be/hammes/DivineDi ... sites.html

It contains a list of DD fansites. Several of them have screenshots, and a great deal of detail about the game.
