From the last reports I have seen..The GOP has gained control of the Senate (House) and already had the Pres.
No excuses now. (Yea right)
I myself most of the time will vote for the GOP...except this year. In Alabama..I voted for the Demo (For Gov.) He claims he can get the (super solution ) passed. A lottery to help the schools here...something in desperate need here in this state. The GOP runner...(and the reason I didn't vote for him) decided to make it a none issue...instead, he ran on the theory, nothing is wrong with the schools here. "Close your eyes and it doesn't happen."
Why cross the line? Why not support your party? Because in the end, I would rather have someone put forward some solution rather than no solution.
What are your thoughts on your states?

I'm European so maybe I'm not allowed to comment but I always like a Republican win. If only to see the sad faces and hear the concerned comments of my local newsreaders.
Overall, I'm as pleased with the result as I can be, given that neither party has any creative solutions, and I dislike the American "majority rules" process intensely. The economic forecast for deficit government spending this coming year looked awful, the worst in twenty years, and now Bush will have no one to blame because he can't understand basic arithmetic and doesn't like facts to get in the way of ideology. It's just a shame so much of the cash is going to be spent on wildly expensive nonsense like the Star Wars boondoggle, which was designed by Edward Teller (the original satirized figure for Dr. Strangelove--and I'm not kidding).

Just be sure that all of the money really goes to education. When Florida passed their lottery amendment in the late 80s, they pledged that every dollar raised would go to education . . . and every dollar did. Unfortunately, they took out all of the old general revenue fund dollars, so education spending actually declined. 12 years later, education spending as a portion of the state budget is less than it was before the lottery, even though the dollar amount has gone up.
There was a move to amend the lottery's charter to restore education spending back to it's pre-lottery level, but Jeb and his cronies defeated that move. If your guy wants a lottery to support education, make sure that it is written into the charter for your state lottery that the old general revenue spending levels will not be decreased and replaced with the lottery money (Georgia did it this way and now every high school graduate in the state is guaranteed a substantial scholarship to go to a state university school).

Amazingly, Arizona seems to have elected a Democratic Governor. I'm not sure why, but I think her willingness to protect the University and Education community from as much of the budget cuts as possible had a lot to do with it. Arizona tends to be more conservative than most, which is why I'm amazed.
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

I remember reading about that HLD (Can't remember where). I have serious doubts the "Lottery" will help. Maybe I will be wrong, but the last time it was tried here (to get passed), it was based off of Georgia. And as you said it did help Georgia. (I hope I'm wrong and it does work)
But at least someone is trying. This is my biggest gripe No one seems to care (GOP)..or the ones with the power don't care.
@Gwalchmai, Georgia elected a Republican. 100+ years. The last Republican was in office (Gov) during "carpetbag" days.
@Fable, "Time to act or get the blame" Bush has no excuse now.
@Ambiorix, all comments welcomed.

I worried too, Viv. But I figure at least the Dems should get a wake-up call before 2004. Hopefully they will get a backbone and actually try to stand for something.....

I was raised in the home of General Contractor and an anal and obsessive mother. Two hardcore republicans... I voted for nader. am I a republican who is trying to be rebellius or am I really a dem cause I got stuck with republicans so much it bothered me? Or am I just crazy cause I chew on the big mcdonalds signs cause they look good?

Words cannot express my delight!
Now let's get those conservative judges appointed (and overturn Roe vs. Wade! )
The ice-cream on the cake would be if one of the (conservative) Supreme Court judges steps down while Republicans hold Congress, and Bush goes ahead and appoints Estrada to the bench.

Erik Estrada, right? Never did like him. Lousy actor, only fit for wearing tight uniforms that made teenage girls itchy.

Poncharello sitting on the Supreme Court is the best laugh I've had all week. Thanks Fable. Elections were fun. I haven't gotten to color that much since taking the GRE.
