Preferred Character Class (full party)

Post by CtrlAltDel »

Just wanting to know what everyone likes to play the most when playing with a full party and why.

I'd have to say the paladin kits are fun to play, of course destroying everything with a kensai/mage is fun too :D

Sorceror or thief...it fits your background at Candlekeep, and there are plenty of wicked tanks in the game...

Easy answer 4 me. Barbarian! The undisputed king of melee combat, and I like most races main screen pictures alot better in leather armor, especially humans.
If I knew as much about hacking and cheese and stuff as userunfriendly, and if I could FIND TOB SOMEWHERE IN AUSTRALIA GOD DAMMIT! ...well I would make sarevok a barb. Yes I know, he wears his trademark deathbringer plate in BG I, but his portrait in ToB suggests to me a barbarian
I wish the barb had a separate stronghold to fighter though...I just cant picture a big hulking brute in hide armor being the benovolent lord of a Castle.
I also wish the Wizardslayer was better. He is a good mageslayer, but frankly I cant play without all those extra magic items. As you may have noticed from my sig, I HATE mages...and clerics to some extent! Death to magic users!

I like to play any of the bards. A stalker is fun, too.
If I asked, would you answer? Its your problem. Its a deep, deep problem. I have no way to ask about that... I have no elegant way of stepping into your heart without tracking in filth. So I will wait. Someday, when you want to tell me, tell me then. -Bleach

"well I would make sarevok a barb. Yes I know, he wears his trademark deathbringer plate in BG I, but his portrait in ToB suggests to me a barbarian "
do you have shadow keeper? if not, go to the sticky at the top of the forum,.....

this works best if you just started tob, get savvy, do not level him up, save the game, and then open sk....

drop his level as warrior down to 0, then change to barbariam, i think true class...create a barbarian template with a new game to see what it looks like...now the amazing thing is, you will keep his trademark deathbringer assault, you may want to edit his proficiencies.....spread them around, and dont go past 2 stars....but you keep the extra hp, and death bringer...

now all you need to do is get tob...sorry cant help you there, mate...

now if you want to play legitimately, you can dual mageslayer to thief....and wait for use any item...

or use sk to add to his innates a single innate, use any item, make sure you have incremented the memorized to 1, then open up the game, and press the button....

save, and remove the button, the use of the innate perminently adds a line to his affects tab that allows a wizslayer to use rings and amulets...so you dont need the innate ability anymore...

An inquisitor is the best leader of a full party, IMO. His dispel magic and true sight are priceless, he has a cumpulsory high charisma, and since you'll assumably have a cleric along for the ride, his lack of Turn Undead, priest spells, and Lay on Hands won't matter.

As far as paladin kits go, I'd say the cavalier is the best soloist, simply because he has just about everything, but in a full party, the inquisitor is the best.

Plus with the PC as an inquisitor you won't have to hear Keldorn's self-righteous preaching. :D

Other good PC characters in a full party are stalker, blade, skald, swashbuckler/mage, assassin/fighter (best evil option, IMO), berserker/druid, and berserker/cleric.

When playing with the npc's I find myself drawnn towards playing a thief and I like swashbucklers best of the thieves. Especially cool in ToB since they actually become really powerful with their killer AC and fighter thac0.
I have just finished a swash/mage solo game and this character would fit very well into any kind of party IMO.

With regards to NPCs, their individual classes or professions mean nothing to me if they don't have good dialogue or a likeable personality. My favorite PC class is a toss-up between a Monk and an Undead Hunter. Of course, they're all second to my new Paladin kit, the Guardian of Tyr. ;)

My Favorite character class now would have to be the swashbuckler pure class, his armor class is now totally insane and he can get some really cool items using his steal ability, plus at the same time he's a really good tank, I used the Weimer upgrade mod, but even before that the swashbuckler class is really cool.

After the swashbuckler, my favorite would have to be either the bard pure class or Ranger pure class, can't understand why people prefer multi or dual, don't level up as fast, besides thats what some of the other PCs are for to balance out your party, Started playing with just three characters, myself swashbuckler, Jaheira fighter druid, and when I finally got to Trademeet(went there first), I picked up Tashia, and finally got a sorcerer class, which means, three tanks balanced out with thievery and clerical skills throwen in, plus one main magic user.

Anyway pure swashbuckler kick ass, are decent fighters and damn good thiefs, so you can steal to your hearts content, or use traps on your enemy, the backstab downgrade is more then made up for the fact that what you essentially have is a fighter/thief multiclass but level up like it was a single class, which means you level up really fast, anyway right now swashbucklers kick butt.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the homosexuals and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a homosexual. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a protestant. Then they came for me--but by that time there was no one left to speak up."

I'm a sucker for magic-related characters: sorcs, pure mages, wild mages, kensai/mages, thief/mages. Even in MMORPGs I've tended to choose mage classes, though typically there I try to create a distinctive, well-defined character each time.

For my next run-through of SoA/ToB, I'm seriously considering a non-mage. I'm looking at a party that will probably have Kelsey, Tashia, Aerie, and Keldorn; a fifth I haven't decided upon, and myself. Obviously, if the fifth is Minsc, Jaheira or Cernd, my sixth will be a thief of some sort, but if the fifth is Jan, then I'll probably opt for fighter; or maybe a mage dual-classed to a fighter. ;)
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

I haven't installed any of those new npc's...

...so as far as the original characters available are concerned, I go for an Undead Hunter/Cavalier, Keldorn, Minsc, Jaheira/Anomen, Aerie and Jan.

As you can see my party is both heavy in spell-casters and tanks.

BTW, I sometimes go for the Archer. I find it great to go on stealth mode and nick those spellcasters before they know what hit them (thanks too, to my cloak of non-detection).

I'm not a power-gamer, but out of curiosity I made a comparison between Swashbuckler
and fighter/thief, and I have to say that a fighter thief wins practically in all aspects.
With the same XPs, a fighter thief loses something in AC and thieving abilities
(but then you don't need really to boost them all over 100%.....), but he can dual-wield
just the same, has equal or better thac0, can backstab, has a larger selection of HLAs,
has WAY more attacks/round, has more HPs, he's generally a more solid char without penalties.

Imho there's no reason to prefer a swashy pure class, unless you rate very high the coolness
factor. :)
But then, a swashy is almost a fighter/thief, and can still be dualled to mage
Bruce, you have convinced and inspired me, in my next game I'll SK Imoen to a swashy/mage!!! :D

Yeah Littiz do try it. Swashy/mage dualed at level 10 is a real killer.
thac0 doesn't matter much since I do my attacking during timestops hehe. It seems that project images can attack in melee aswell... maybe because I am using belm and kundane... will have to do some testing.
About the swashie vs fighter thief ... you are right that a fighter/thief probably is better from a powergaming point of view, but don't underestimate the killer AC and swashies do more damage per hit aswell.
With an AC of -24 you dont get hit that often.

Sorry User, but I cant do any shadowkeeper stuff. I would most likely not know how to download/install it properly (I dont know how to zip/unzip) and even if I did it might just figure out how to start it up and, finnaly, succeed in immensly screwing up my game.
Oh for some technical knowledge!!!!!

Shadow Keeper is incredibly easy to use, Daragen. Very self-explanatory. The only difficult side is learning how to do hex to decimal (could use the ole Windows calculator) and where you need to apply it.
