viconia, alignment change, and shar

Post by damien the 3rd »

more of a curiosity question really, but in d&d you could only be a priest of a god/ess if you wre in one step of there alignment. Shar, being a NE deity, could only have cleric alignments of evil. Thus, when viconia changes her alignment, she would have to forfeit her cleric class or take on a new deity. what does she say on this and how is this possible. I have a LN character so for roleplaying purposes id have her change alignment but not abandon her deity (im getting to sensitive arent i?). whats the deal?
i looked down the mine shaft to see if the cart was coming

it was-epitaph on nashkel gravestone
Executioner: so what is your last request?
Prisoner: just a clean death, so could you test the axe on my bonds
Executioner: Hmmm, all right.
Prisoner :( running away) thanks

Hmmmm, I am not entirely sure, but SHAR is the goddess of moon or night or moonlight or something like that. Therefore one of the very supportable and persuasive conclusion deducible from teh evidences is that SHAR is probably like walking trash bard-demigod so alignment does not alter, in any way, the stance of viconia to this deity of hers, where stance is not likely to be altered (redundant on purpose). For those who have better answers, or hypotheses, i should say, out there, I have only two words for you: "Ni!"

By the by, my friend, I should probably inform you that I don't take Viconia (unless I'm making her use the Shakti figurine and engaging her in aggressive negotiations) so my information is not quite accurate. I wish you all well in this relatively good day.
BAH. I wish you all well on this relatively good day.

I believe that rule only applies to 3E D&D. The BG series is AD&D (i.e. 2nd edition).

Well "Ni" to you too, bub. Image You’re way off base about Shar though. Selune is the moon goddess and Shar hates her with a flaming passion. Shar is actually a greater goddess whose portfolio consists of Darkness, Night, Loss, and Forgetfulness. A brief except:

"Hatred and loss were the nature of Shar. She was a deeply twisted and perverse being of ineffable evil and endless petty hatred and jealousy. She ruled over pains hidden but not forgotten, bitterness carefully nurtured away from the light and from others, and quiet revenge for any slight, no matter how old. In her philosophy, the ends always justified the means. She reveled in the concealed, in that which is hidden, never to be revealed. She could always clearly perceive every being, object, and act performed within darkness."

Hardly a walking trash bard-demigod. :p
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

More than likely Faiths & Pantheons from Wizards of the Coast. It's a very good publication actually, I enjoyed reading it just for the sake of finding out about Gods, but then I'm a Paladin and Cleric freak. I love 'em! :D

Mmm...Beshaba!

It is Faiths and Pantheons. Pretty cool book..Makes me wonder how a good Aligned NPC can hang out with Viconia though..and I had her as a romance Option twice! (NG,CG)..According to the book, Shar's Clerics are supposed to commit an act of Wickedness once every 2 weeks or so before praying to her..wonder what acts of Wickedness Dear Old Viccy was up to... :D ..I'll pick Shar next time for my Cleric/Thief..though I wish they had Shar as a clerical option for evil with some Shadow Weave Spells..That would have been really nice..(Who wants Talos as a Diety? That guy's a psycho!!!..)
Personally, if I was a male Cleric of Evil, I'd pick Beshaba... ;) ..
