By any chance are you using a Voodoo card? I remember experiecing similar problems when I tried to play it with my Voodoo 3 card. Of course, that was when I had some problems with my sound card as well, so it was hard to tell which was screwing up what.
According to some people, NWN doesn't support Voodoo cards (they're out of production) so people who use them have to do some fancy mojo with their system config just to make it run... barely.

you should try to disable sound, or maybe roll back a couple of drivers for fot teh garph card......Originally posted by craig

Did you have to install any software or drivers for the new card? If not, then it's most likely that it's using the default Microsoft driver for the card which may not support OpenGL or Direct3D. I recommend downloading and installing the latest driver for the card (sounds like it's an S3 Savage4) and checking that you have DirectX 8 installed.

if not try drivers dot com, drivers.com, youll get to the right page, also go to windows updates for thier latest drivers, taking for granted you have windows operating system, also look for update drivers for your motherboard and chipset, flash bios if necessary, sorry, i do get carried away, but it works.
and then you realize your dreams alive you can be the guide
Ok, some pretty common sense solutions that might solve your problem:
1) Update your video card driver to the latest version
2) Update your sound card driver to the latest version
3) Get the latest version of DirectX
4) Get the latest patch for Neverwinter Nights
You've also said that the game runs really slowly at 800x600, try to turn down all the graphical settings to a bare minium and see if it increases the frame rate. Also, Neverwinter Nights is a very hardware-intensive game. Your Duron 800 MHz and 256 MB of RAM might not be enough, so maybe that's why you are experiencing lag.
