Are you sure about that? It looks suspicious to me.

I am impressed, how perceptive of you to be able to match my physical characteristics to the female gender. However, I am not altogether removed from the stereotype "real woman" image. I mean, I'd like to produce children as well as good science...and I do notice when the garbage smells, after a few days or so. I have even started washing my clothes before I have to go to work without underwear...

It is funny to build people, like building your own golem but more self-conscious

It is also a nice way to try out ideas

Gender is ofcourse only a rule of thumb I use, In reality I think every human is unique.

I wish you were as free from preconceptions as you wish, but still I appreciate your strivings

We were talking stereotypes, and regarding stereotypes I think just about everybody I know except my prof is more of a woman than I.

EDIT: I confess I'm a science nerd, did anyone read the new report about the Macace(sp?) monkeys and homosexual behaviour? The females actually prefers having sex with each other, although they occationally mate with males as well. Sort of puzzling to my biologist mind that wants to view any behaviour as functional...maybe it is functional in another way, like for social bonding or something, many primates use sex for much more complex things than simply reproduction. Social bonding and stress relief are two well studied areas.

My friend once said "children are just cognitive midgets" (ie dwarves) as a response to someone who asked her why she wasn't particularly fond of children.

Cognitive geniuses, more likely. The amount of information they assimilate in a relatively short period of time is astonishing. What a shame adults have to try and beat that flame out of them.

Agreed. My experience has shown me that children can be insightful to an astonishing degree; often, this can be unnerving. A friend's child, at the ripe old age of five, saw me sitting deep in thought one afternoon. He walked over and sat down next to me solemnly. He was silent for a moment, then looked up at me and asked if I was feeling down. I replied that I was, and, smiling, he said in response: "Why don't you play with me? Maybe you'll feel better."

Im flattered by the fact that you dont see me as a cognitive midget.

But I doubt you have any plans to hire me, that usally implicates some sort of payment.

@Fable: Yes, I was actually somewhat serious, the "

" comes from an eariler discussion with CE where I accidentialy (well, not really) claimed that liking woman with breast was a personal preference I had. She have harassed me for my pretentiousness ever since.

Nothing on this earth have more learning capacity than a child around age 3. My friends comment, and my enjoying her comment, must be seen in a special context. In Sweden, more than any other country I've ever been to, children are not generally viewed as the same as adults but something inherently different. This is a long discussion, but this view of children results both in the adults refusing to see and acknowledge that children do not have a different human nature than adults which in turn result in total blindness and refusal to see problems like bullying, violence between children, etc, (because children are "good") and at the same time it results in children not having the same rights as adults, as is demonstrated in the many cases of violence towards children and the attitude that having children is some kind of right adults should have.

Few things are so un-PC in Swedish society as to not automatically love all children just because they are children. Personally, I am no more fond of children than adults - I don't see any reason why I should make a difference.

And whereas I find it upsetting that children should not have the same rights as adults as is demonstrated in custody issues and adult violence towards children, I also do find it really irritating that people bring their screaming infants to concertos and public places, and anyone who find this disturbing is viewed negatively because it is an expression of not allowing children to do anything at any place. I also hate the way this has been made into a feminist issue, so that not liking screaming infants at the opera house is equal to being a chauvinist and repressing women.

It is difficult to describe, but it's a strange combination of total laissez fair pedagogics plus adult projections plus instrumental view on children. In summary, Swedish children pedagogics suck.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot my confession: I don't like infants. I don't think they are cute. I prefer people I can communicate with verbally.

I never really enjoy those kind of things, I mostly do it because I feel obliged too, I view it as a responsibility...and as service to my friends because I like them, and because I can.
