Leveling up from level 0 to level 1 is better than just set the level to 1, because when you get from level 0 to 1 you recieve all kit-specific abilities (AC for Swashbuckler,Set Traps etc.), which otherwise you had to manually edit in with SK.
3 character party
Yes, 0 XP is enough for level 1

There are three kinds of people that no one understands: geniuses, madmen and guys that mumble.
A lot depends on if you use npc's and if you edit them. If you make all you own chars.
1) swash/fighter
2) sorc
3) fighter/cleric multi
If you take some npcs replace the second with Edwin.
I don't really see where deciding how many party members you want makes sense. I'd just make a PC and then base decisions off of that character. If he's an Inquisitor he'd probally drop Edwin on the spot rather than joining up. I tend to have a party of about 4 at any time but I'm constantly swapping them out so I tend not to cap out by the end of Irenicus's dungeon as some people do.
