Heavy armor
Where can I find good heavy armor fairly early in the game? I know the master trainer of heavy armor in Vivec has ebony, but I don't want to kill him. Anywhere else I can get good armor?

If you join the Imperial Legion (start at Gnisis) they give you Imperial Armour as part of your uniform, and as you progress it improves. Caius wants you to go out and join a faction anyway.
Dwemer armour is reasonably good, and you can pick up bits and pieces here and there.
