Created a short sword

Here's the stats:

Short Sword +4, Corvuus's Hate

This short sword was first used by Corvuus, a mercenary assassin with a special dislike for mages. Corvuus was the best at what he did and therefore charged some very high prices. The jobs were always finished right, however. Corvuus received this sword as a +3 short sword after an argument with an employer over payment that ended in bloodshed. Soon, it became his favorite sword to use in his jobs and he used right up until his natural life ended.

Corvuus never actually died, however, but was imprisoned in his own sword after a failed assassination attempt on a very powerful mage called Nava. His hatred of mages became even more so after this, and this part of him also became part of the blade. Somehow Corvuus managed to put his feeling of hate into the blade, causing it to become a mage killer. The blade also glows red with hate.

This is my first try at an item so tell me what you think. I think it may be a bit too powerful but I can't think of any good drawbacks I'd like to add. Any ideas or other suggestions for it?

Well, good decision to choose all silence-releted things. You could add -1 to constitution and -1 to dex and maybe add +10% hide in shadows.....

I like it, but I also like Edwin's thoughts on enhancing it. Do you have the experience to program in a weapon upgrade, with the use of a jewel? Maybe that could add what he suggests.

A question about the program to make items. I dowloaded it, used it successfully, and one day.....it disappeared. I mean: if i try to open it, only an icon appear. I tried to uninstall/reinstall it....but nothing changed. Any idea?????

About the weapon now :D
I think u should give it another bonus
something like: 50% change of stunning the target.
Because that silence thing is really anoying if u play fighter mage or something.
And the silence thing isn't always usefull only against spell casters.
Ok there are a lot of spel casters in the game but u don't always play against spelcasters and then the Stun abillity is really nice.
I really like the story of the sword though :D

Thanks for all the comments :) ! First, I was thinking about adding a hide in shadows bonus, and I may do so now. Something like 15%. Also, I don't want to take dexterity because does have a theif in it, meaning high dexterity. Constitution might work, though. And to make it a decent weapon for a dualed or multi-classes mage, maybe poison it but put a saving throw in. He was an assassin. I don't know if this is good enough, though. Maybe the 50% stun would work, or a 25% stun as to not overpower it. Also, does anyone know if you can make a sword jet black in the game? I tried by adding a change color thing with RGB all set at 0, but that only made it a dark silver.

Does anyone know what the name of the spell for the assassin ability poison weapon is? When I say name, I mean the file name in windows. Anyone? I think it's extracted from the spells.bif file in the data folder but I have no idea what the name is.

What do you think now? Consider getting this from a difficult enemy. And speaking of that, does anyone think they could tell me how to add the item into an enemies dropped items? I've got a hex editor, I've extracted the creatures from the data file, and I know the site with the file broken down, but I've never really done hex editing before. Does anyone know where I might find a good place to learn or something? I'd really like to figure out how to do this myself, but I need some instruction.

Ok im assuming you are wanting to edit the .cre files. The numbers and locations referred to on the IFFHP are the offset and Data type (size). When you open up your hex editor you see a line that looks like this:

you should have a window open in lower corner that shows what each block is
that looks like this:

All you need to do to edit is change the Hex locations to the attributes that you want using the IFFHP as a reference point for what each block repersents (ie offset Ox0024 (word) is used for storing current hitpoints..), as a tutorial i recommend here: [url="http://gustovm.www8.50megs.com/InfinityEngineGames.html"]http://gustovm.www8.50megs.com/InfinityEngineGames.html[/url] and download the tutorial on making NPCS as that gives good examples of hex editing. Also if you dont see a window like the one described above you may need an improved Hex editor. (I use Hex workshop.) Also if you have any questions feel free to email me at

GR: That's a good sword when you first had it. Good backstory and reasonable bonus/penalty balance which would still make it the best shortsword in the game (dual/multi mages are using the Staff or Celestial/Dakkon's). The only thing I would have added from the original is a small bonus to silent move.

Adding the stun doesn't fit the story and makes it insanely powerful, especially with the penalty to save on the stun. Celestial Fury is already insanely powerful and everyone seems to want to one-up it. If you're looking to create a balanced weapon, which I think you are, don't.

Not for this sword, but I would love to see a short sword which would do double damage on backstabs...it might actually make it do as much damage as Celestial Fury or the Staff of Striking.

OK. I finished it. Anybody want a copy post your email address and I'll send it to you because I don't have anywhere to post a download. Also, I haven't fully tested it so if you get it and something doesn't work, tell me so I can fix it. Also, at this point, you have to have IEE and some way of putting it into your game, i.e. shadowkeeper, clua console commands, etc. I still haven't quite figured out the hex editing thing :mad: but I'm working on it. :)

Forgot to say I went with the original stats but added 10% to move silently. This also stuck with the silence theme. :D
