Well considering that I probably pictured you as a younger version of that guy who used to host the PBS series, Mystery, that seems strangely apt !

Though I would suggest you use caution talking like that around Scayde

Not me, pal. A Swedish god offered to fix me up that way a number of years ago, but I refused. Prefer the old equipment I was conjured into existence with.

On another note, Diana Rigg took over hosting Mystery! after Vincent Price left. He was in his early 80s at the time, and died a couple of years later. Frankly, I think he looked healthier than she did.

Just a note, the first host was actually Gene Shalit. Small wonder he only lasted a year.

But the real star of the show has always been Edward Gorey, whom Fable probably relates to the most.

You had to remind me of that.

But you're right. I've never liked Shalit, and I don't know why anybody in the audience would want him as a host for a program about literate, recorded-for-television mysteries. By contrast, Price knew and enjoyed the genre, and took roles in several movie mysteries.

Never did get Gorey's humor. Always prefered Charles Addams. Gorey was a balletomaine, too, and I've never been too wild about ballet; preferred opera.

What was your favorite Mystery series? Mine was Rumpole of the Bailey. I greatly enjoyed the cleverly designed, realistic characters, the regular shots taken at the British legal system (the series' author was a well-known, successful barrister), and the acting was first rate. I also like a fallible detective, instead of a superhuman one like Holmes or Poirot.

Rumpole was excellent. I really like Cadfael. An unusual period to set the stories. Some how reminded me of I Claudius. I agree about the super detective problem. The humorous ones are always my favorites. I’m not too interested in the darker ones like Second Sight.
