Just starting my very first game. Got to Balomar and was celbrating not getting caught killing the guy for the key to his house (second thieves quest). So I'm jumping around practicing my acrobatic skill and hit a sign. Guess what, I can't get off of the sign. Do I have to go back to a previous save?

Nope - try this:
Bring up the console by pressing ~ on your keyboard. Enter the following:
player->fixme
This will move your PC some distance away. Close the console by pressing ~ again.
