The created items I have seen so far are VERY good, so I wanted to add mine to their growing list. This IS AN OVERPOWERED item. The idea came up after reading an Elminster/Gandalf topic on this board, in which i vehemently defended Gandalf. One of the posts suggested how hard it owuld be to translate Tolkien into AD&D. I am no AD&D expert, mind you, and I myself have said that such artifacts are in MOST cases incompatible. But enough of the rant, here it is {LONG MESSAGE}:
"THE ONE RING"
Story: see Tolkien. Don't want to plagiarize, and the stats themselves take up a lot of space.
Statistics:The One Ring
Grants wearer permanent inivisibility: can not be the target of direct spells, any hit against the wearer must be preceded by a saving throw versus invisibility @ -4. If someone uses true siht, after the spell is over, the invisibility returns.
Wearer can see any invisible creature, made invisible in any way, shape, or form.
Effects of ring's control:
Ring slowly takes control of char. over 1yr.
[NOTE: this is much shorter than in LOTR and is made so to adjust to AD&D universe]
After 3 mos.:
- wearer's alignment shifts one space towards Chaotic Evil, if not already @ Chaotic Evil.
- Wearer gets +1 INT, -1 WIS (due to inability to perceive the inherent evil and destruction the ring is bringing him), +1 STR, -1 CON, +1 DEX, -1CHA
- Wearer gains the ability to mistform at will. While mistformed, wearer can not be the target of physical attacks, but cannot target anyone with physical attacks himself.
- Wearer gains Sauron's gaze (once per day): all chars. that approach wearer must make a save vs. wands @ -4 or run away in horror after seeing the twisted visage of the evil Maiar.
Item becomes cursed (STAGE ONE): Upon removal of item from wearer, he becomes possessed with an unrelenting desire to obtain it. If someone else takes the ring, the wearer will attack him, even if the taker is infinitely more powerful than the wearer. If the ring is lost, the wearer will look for it until it is found.

after 6 mos.:
Wearer's alignment switches 2 slots towards Chaotic Evil
Wearer's reputation is set to 8
Wearer gains +2 INT, -2 WIS, -2 CON (no STR change), +2 DEX, -2 CHA
Wearer gains Sauron's Touch: Three times per day, he or she can, upon pronouncing the necessary incantations, summon forth a magical hand, which can travel a distance of 60 feet under the user's control. As soon as the wearer targets any creature with the hand, it unleashes a small part of the demigod's fury upon the victim, automatically stunning him, draining him of four levels and four stat points [chosen at random], lowering his saving throws, and (unless target saves vs. wands @ -2) subjecting the target to the demigod's will. When target is subjected, he undergoes the effects of a Dire Charm spell, but will not attack the wearer upon ANY condition.
Wearer gains Shadeform @ will: while shadeformed, he cannot be the target of any physical attacks or substances, can fly for 1d4+6 hrs, and can wield mistform weapons (if he can find them).
Item becomes cursed (STAGE TWO): Upon removal of item, wearer's strenght and constitution wither away, resulting in death within 3 days unless cured by a resurrection scroll or spell. If ressurected, character can no longer return to a life of adventuring, and has all his stats permanently lowered by 8 (if this results in an excessive low, the stat is decreased to its minimum).

THX for the positive feedback, but I still haven't finished the ring (ONE more part left). Will think about Glamdring and Aragorn's blade. Here's the last part:
After 12 Mos.:
Wearer's Alignment becomes Chaotic Evil.
Wearer's reputation is set to 2
Wearer gains +2 INT, -2 WIS, +3 STR, -2 CON, +2 DEX, -3 CHA
Wearer becomes a slave of Sauron: His class and race do not change, but his initial stats and alignment determine his final allocation for servitude (which may be death, if an initiallly good and meek personality clashes with the awesome power of the ring):
Good, STR>17 - Death Knight (as per the new prestige class in AD&D). Gains a personal steed of sauron (24 HD Greater wyvern, poisonous breath attack, minor wing buffet, INT 17 STR 20, causes Fear (saving throw) in enemies). Gains a personal weapon of sauron (can not be destroyed by phsyical means, counts as +6, poisons, curses, paralyzes target for 1d6+1 rounds and slowly drains levels from him until the character reaches level 0)
GOOD, STR 17 adn < - Death
[OTHER TRANSOFRMATIONS TO BE POSTED UP].
Wearer gains wraithform (permanent): same as shadeform, except wearer also gains a drain level touch (once per day) and, whenever he is killed, his soul flies back to Sauron and is reborn after one day.
Item becomes cursed (Stage THREE): Upon removal of item, character dies (no saving throw) within 2 hours unless item is retrieved.
WHEW..............

Vbrash no offense intended but what you are describing as making is (in an infinity engine game), impossible to make. It might be possible to give an item some of the mentioned powers like seeing invisible but most of the rest cannot be done. If you dont believe me Go here: http://gustovm.www8.50megs.com/InfinityEngineGames.html and download the IEEP, the most advanced utility to date for editing stuff and try and make it. The problem lies in the fact that you have to tie a script to an item to do most of that stuff (Ie global timers, etc...) as well as edit Baldur.bcs.
If you are gonna make claims about creating items at least do a little research on item making first.

That thing about dying not having the ring seems wierd. Look at Gollum, he seems to go on forever to get back his precious. And Bilbo, who is the oldest hobbit ever?
And what about getting lower con? shouldnt it be the other way around? Gollum is indeed not wellbuilt, he has been mutated badly, but that is because he has eaten fish (and orcs) for a few hundred years. He seems to endure most things otherwise.

Sigurd, Crazed Cleric of Talos, Servant of Evil.
this is vbarash, writing from big stomp's house and too lazy to re-log on.
Hopefully, by now everyone realizes that this item can not be realistically used in BG2. I did think of one thing: for curse stages, whenthe first stage runs out, a guy comes up to you and gives you the second stage. he then autokills you if you don't start wearing it... but that would be pretty cheezy...
@sigurd: cool thought about people going on with the ring forever. I quote:
"But as for his long life, Bilbo never connected it with the ring at all. He took all the credit for himself and was very proud of it."
Perhaps as a side effect of final stage of curse, wearer's normal life span ends, and he begins a new existence of slavery and suffering without end... in AD&D terms, the slavery and suffering translate into the big CON low.
Now about the CON: your argument is perfect in relation to Gollum. His diet is not very appetizing. But, as I quote from the same passage as above:
"Though eh was getting restless and uneasy. "Thin and stretched, he said. A sing that the ring was taking control." (By the way, both of the above quotations are taking from the Fellowship of the Ring, when Gandalf starts explaining the power of the ring to Frodo in the Shire).
Gandalf elswhere explains what "taking control" means:
"A mortal, Frodo, who keeps one of the Great Rings, does not die, byt he does not grow or obtain more life, he merely continues, until at last every minute is a weariness. And if he often uses the Ring to make himself invisible, he fades : he becomes in the end invisible permanently and walks in the ttwilight under the eye of the dark power that rules the Rings."
Hence the lowered constitution and the mistofrm stuff

Nice work. Too bad it can't be implemented in the game. I also think I would like it better if I wasn't as familiar with Tolkien. IMO the details are quite different from what I see with the One ring in the story.
Remember that with the One ring we never see much of what its true powers are. All we see is a really good ring of invisibility (True invisibility even while attacking, similar to continually reequipping the Staff of the Magi.)
The One contains a good portion of Sauron's power to the point that he weakened himself. Once it was created he became more powerful than ever when he had it but weaker without it. This power is beyond the ability of the hobbits to wield and hence does not come out...if it would have been used by someone with Gandalf's (or Saruman's) power he likely could have replaced Sauron with himself, but it would have been a victory for evil as he would have become like Sauron in the process.
I don't see a basis for the wraithform abilities, though apparently the wearer was actually easier for the Nazgul (Black Riders)to see when wearing the ring. I think Tolkien's concept of invisibilty may actually involve sliding into a parallel shadow world that touches the normal world.
The ring will corrupt it's wearer, but how that happens depends greatly on the wearer. The nine were twisted deliberately to corrupt and enslave. With the One it is a side effect.
With Gollum we see a former hobbit(?) who has certainly become extremely Chaotic and Evil, but may have been to begin with. He killed a friend (brother?) to get the ring even before he wore it. His intelligence is still fairly strong in some ways (riddles, escape from the elves) but he is also insane...which could be reflected in the Wis loss, though I don't see a reason to give an Int gain.
Physically he is strong for his size (Str) as well as quick and stealthy (Dex). However, I don't know that he neccesarily gained either from the ring. On the other hand, he chased the hobbits across the world and got to Mt Doom the same time they did, despite the fact he was on foot the whole time (Con). He's so twisted it's hard to really consider him belonging to any race and I'm not even sure what he was. However, some of that may be due to hiding in the dark for hundreds of years.

@Nighthawk: I couldn't agree with you more. The storyline and depth of Tolkien's works are hard to follow and match (esp. by me - I may have read the book over three or four times, but that was a long, long time ago). I don't think it's possible to recreate a true "Tolkienesque" ring in the AD&D realm. Hence my note in one of the first posts...
THX for the feedback everyone and (once I do some rereading) I'll look into the other items.
