RPG Timeline
I started playing Baldur's Gate the other day...and just got Neverwinter Nights. Could anyone out there tell me what the timeline is for the games currently out?
Just wondering the progression since Baldur's Gate...
Thanks!

I didn't really say what I wanted to say there! What I'm looking for is when these games were actually released, starting with Baldur's Gate...
I assume it goes:
BG, BG II, Icewind, Icewind II, then NWN...
But I saw the links on the side of the gamebanshee site that mentions more than just these games...do the others listed play like BG and NWN, or are they different? I've played Diablo I and II, so I know about those...just wondering about the others.
Thanks again!

Try doing a search on any games you want to date here. I've found them pretty reliable in the past.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Oh. I see
Well I think it goes like this:
Diablo
Baldur's Gate
Vampire: The Masquerade
Planescape: Torment
Icewind Dale
Diablo 2
Baldur's Gate 2
Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor
Dungeon Siege
Morrowind
Neverwinter Nights
Icewind Dale 2
I'm probably off by a little though

@Roga Danar, If you're after after the in-game timelines then I can provide that for you (BTW, I'm probably the only one here who knows that your handle is based on a one-shot Star Trek TNG character).
Icewind Dale/Heart of Winter: 1281 DR, the Year of the Cold Soul
Icewind Dale 2: 1311 DR, the Year of the Fist
Baldur’s Gate series: 1369 DR, the Year of the Gauntlet
Neverwinter Nights: 1372 DR, the Year of Wild Magic

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I think the games in this site is based on the interests shown by members coming here, or rather, Buck himself is interested in playing them.
I don't play many games, so I don't know if they are actually similar (the game engines are different, so playing style must be different), but they are more or less all RPG and should have similar taste to each other.

Originally GameBanshee only had BG2. Some of us started saying why there's no BG1, Diablo or Planescape: Torment sections, and Buck created them. Some other games are Buck's own interests, I guess. <SNIP>
Feeling a little nostalgic ?

Kayless, you and Kameleon are definitely the few who recognize my handle...not many people do! One of my favorite episodes.Originally posted by Kayless

Thanks for the quick timeline there too...I saw that in Neverwinter Nights, some of the in-game books mention heroes of the sword coast and such. I'll have to read the FR books to really get a feel for it though. I hope they come out with more DragonLance world games...it was too much fun on those old gold box AD&D packages!

Same here, Roga. Krynn is a fun milieu to stage adventures in. I shall miss the Planescape setting, as I found Sigil to be quite original and fun as well. At least it lives on in IWD2, after a fashion.
I was a big fan of the gold box series - talk about memories.
@Kayless: Glad to see you're still stalking the halls of SYM, O Grand Pooh-bah Hippie Hater and Defender of the yummy English Muffin.

Just goes to show who takes their Trek to heart.
The Forgotten Realms have a crap load of heroes. More than enough to keep you busy reading about all their adventures.Originally posted by Roga Danar

Shameless Plug: You can even read about misadventures of a low level group of misfit heroes in my comic, Dungeon Crawl Inc..

Hey, I can't let Kam spot all the obscure Star Trek references, can I?

I started reading it the other day...got to about the 50th episode or so....Pretty damn funny! One question: Is the My Clavin quotes from Doom or Castle Wolfenstein or something like that??? Keep em funny!
I'll probably get into the FR series soon...I read Waterdeep many years ago. Any hints on what order I should read them in? After I finish the Sword of Truth series, I'll get check it out.

I think the official Wizards of the Coast site gives a timeline of the stories (which should give you a good idea what order to read them in). Myself, I haven’t read too many of the novels since I prefer the various source books.
