The logging village is the only place you will see her. So, it is not necessarily a bad thing. You do miss out on the experience (1050) that you would have gotten if you had returned the sword to her (and then received the weapon itself as a reward).

Minor spoiler ahead:

No, you can also see Emma Moonblade in next area, Shaengarne Ford. There are 2 options how to do it:

1)either you don't want to give her the blade as the author suggests
2)you slay Kaitlin (the girl that Torak sends to you to report that peasants are being held captive)

If you slay Kaitlin and don't care about the peasants' lives, Torak of course kills them. When you kill Vrek and get the blade and then return to Emma, she will swear you a revenge for slaying Kaitlin, because she saw you. This revenge occurs in Shaengarne ford, in the area just south of location 5 - CAMPSITE.She attacks together with Kristian Deylore (I hope I remember name correctly) and two or three Warriors of Virtue. You can not retrieve her blade after the battle if you gave it to her, but you can get some nice chain mail armors and helmets.

Sorry for bumping up this topic after 5 years, but I just wanted to explain few things.

Regards,
Z.S.

odd, when I retrieved her sword for her she did not give it to me as a reward, just thanked me and gave 2000 gold and I got soemthing like 750 xp but I was slightly disappointed with that reward as its quite a nifty sword - inflicts double damage against the undead if I recall right, so I felt I should have kept the sword.

You have to decline the reward in order to get the sword. It's not that great since it doesn't grant a strength bonus.
