Backstabbing

How is the backstab damage calculated in BGII? I think BGI used to add prof. bonuses+strenght bonuses+weapon bonuses+hit dice and then it was multiplied when ToTSC left out strenght bonuses from the .... (equition?!? - what's the word). How does it work in BGII?

YEsterday i had my thief give a backstab that gave.....tatadadada...4 damge (after multiplier)...WHO THA MAN...I have tha sccreenshotties to prove it..

as minsce would say it:

Your guy has to be a real strong one ... ? (strenght of 3?) Is he one of those that can't even lift a sword so you have to backstab with a dart?

He most probably backstabbed with his fists ... thinking he had Fingers of Death ...

He has strenght 15 and was using a short sword

using a hacked weapon and character in baldurs gate, i pulled off a backstab that did 300 damage to a person in my party with an ac of something like....-3

well, it wasnt really a hacked item. I did hack to get it though because i used gatekeeper to put it on my character. He was a level 15 thief i think.

While it states that you can only backstab humanoids, I've been able to backstab the Otyugh in Irenicus' dungon. Has anybody else backstabbed something like this.

I backstab whatever happens to be hostile (or soon-to-be-hostile ... although after a backstab, who wouldn't be?

) and has his back turned towards me (nobody prevents me from seeking a 'better' position with my thief), while my thief is hidden.

yes, I also backstabbed Otiyughs (sp?). And wolves, are they humanoid as well?? For Slimes it doesn't work, neither does it for Gauths or any Beholder type. I'm not sure about Dragons ...
