D*** Amnish Soldier!
By the fountain in the Northwest corner of Waukeen's promenade, near the district exit, is this guy who, long story short, hates EVERYONE. I had just picked up Viconia in my party and (I'm not sure if I initiated dialogue or if the hateful NPC did) he decided the drow needed to die. I made quick work of him with no Rep penalty, but the Amnish Soldier by the exit went hostile and tried to kill me. Now, every time I enter Waukeen's Promenade, he attacks me. No others do, though (thank God). I've found that casting Hold Person on him, running into the Adventurer's Mart, getting what I need, and running away works fairly well, but I have to know: Is there any way other than offing the guard to get him to stop? It's really annoying when he follows me into the AM and he attacks as I'm trying to conduct my business. Or, if wacking him is the only way, how bad will my Rep be hit?

The guy doesnt hate everybody, just elves. If you have Jaheira in your party he's rude to you but if you have Viconia, a drow, in your party he attacks you. That happened to me the first time I picked up Viconia and I just killed the guard who attacked me. Every time I walk by there the shopkeeper by the fountain turns hostile but he doesnt attack. However, if you have AI on your party automatically attacks him. You lose a few reputation points but I dont recall how many. It didnt take me long to regain my 20 reputation though so I wouldnt worry about it.

But, if you summon a demon, won't it attack every other NPC there too, since they aren't Protected from Evil?

cast haste on the party, and have all party members except spellcaster and Viconia run to a safe location, approach a$$hole, summon, while it is comming trigger dialogue, dialogue ends, he goes red, you run away hasted, deamon materializes, Demon will kill the jerk, a few guards *may* attack and die but not always.
The key is there will be no rep loss for those killed by the deamon,
deamon cant attack ballance of pary cus they are safly away
he does not even see you cus you have lots of time to get out of eyesight while he doors in
You could try to kill the guard the same way, cast a few skins, , pro evil, haste yourself, walk up to guard, cast deamon, when he shows up you run away

You could try charming the guard and leading him into a region you don't intend to go. There is a gap between the coloseum and the edge of the map in the NW corner that works well for this. I usually go there to fight the cowled wizards since it is uninhabited.
