Fashion crimes
The other day we had the misfortune to go to a mall. (That in itself would make an epic. My wife was certain that because the weather was nice, everybody in New Jersey would head to the shore, and the mall would be deserted. It was packed solid.) I watched as an elderly pair, easily in their mid 70s, emerged from a store. She had on skintight jeans, the sort that button on the lower legs to maintain close contact.
And at that moment, this thread was borne.
What other fashion crimes can you think of? Where else should the fashion police make their presence known? Speak up! This is your chance for redress (in both senses of the word) and justice!

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

People at music festivals. They seem to have no grasp of what looks good... or they just don't care. Since when was fishnet considered a suitable fabric for anything but tights - and that only when the Rocky Horror Show's in town?
Mind you, it is kind of amusing when the weather turns out nice... the goths really don't know what to do, in their head-to-toe black finished off with a nice sturdy pair of DMs... it's not as though they can strip it all off, since their carefully-preserved pasty white skin would burn in seconds. They have no choice but to suffer... That'll teach 'em.

Who, me?!?
Excellent excellent thread
Most of my wardrobe is destined for the dock at a fashion crimes tribunal at the Hague I suspect....
My several paisley shirts will receive a long stretch I should imagine.
My teddy bear print dungarees are evading arrest. (Cos they only cost £1 w00t!)
My 'I Love To Tease The Boys' t shirt is a fugitive and
my brown silk victorian orphanage-chic dress is probably on a list somewhere.

lol! great thread!
Here is what I think looks really tacky:
The woman with obviously bleached-blond hair, make-up that ressembles war paint, overly long, brightly painted finger nails, jeans so tight that it appears as though her flesh has been poured into them, and an excessive amount of cheap, jangly jewelry. Not to mention perfume that reaches your nostrils about five minutes before she enters your line of sight.
Then there are the terry or velour 'trackpants' that should never be allowed to make it into public space....

Guess ..... well, myself
Unless I go out (in wich case I prefere suit and tie) or am going to an importent meeting (depending on the meeting, tries to dress appropiately) I don't really care what i wear.
I am a computer geek (well, sort of) so my dressing is very influenced by that fact. I often wear sweats to school these days since we are working on a project for about 7-8 hours a day where I sit behind the screen working, so I can't really be bothered to dress "nicely".
So sweats and t-shirt or some sort of jeans and t-shirt (real washed out t-shirts) these days ... fasion disaster ... learning towards crime
Hey - I gotta look the part, but of couse, when I have value in it, I dress nicely.

here's a big one for guys...
Black shoes do NOT go with navy blue pants. the same goes with any clothing combo- black and dark blue do not go together.
my other gripe...women with low cut jeans...let me correct that statement..women who cannot see their jeans wearing low cut jeans. here's a simple rule- if you can't see the fly of your jeans, do not wear anything that accentuates this fact.

Another rather disturbing trend is wearing g-strings way above the waistband of jeans... whether or not you can get away with the low cut jeans, it just looks dodgy.
@Frogus I'm surprised they make teddy bear dungarees that fit anyone over the age of 8...

ROFLMAO Well put
My gripes about others:
In men:
- Chinos! The definite killer of sex appeal!
- Blue shirt at white, blonde men - the contrast make them look pink in their face!
- Cheap, ill fitting suits in bad fabric because "it's a suit"
In women:
- higher heels than you can walk in
- flower patterns
- flounces
- white wedding dresses that look like cream cakes
And my own wardrobe:
I have some hysterically tasteless bimbo outfits that I use sometimes in special situations in order to surprise and provoke people to think in less stereotype patterns. If you got jail for fashion crimes, I'd get life for some of those outfits

I've been doing that since low cut jeans came around some years ago... Sometimes even at work

my own personal fashion no-no: I have been known to wear a "wife-beater" in public. I have enough dress shirts to go a month without havign to repeat, but that has left little for everyday clothes.
for those who don't know what a wife beater is:
in its purest form, a wife beater is a white tank top undershirt, but the term can also be applied to any T-shirt with the sleeves cut/ripped off.

Hmm...my age will show here - but I can't help myself.
1. Baseball caps pulled down so tight they appear screwed on your head. I find it hilarious when you see a group of 4 or 5 young men age 12-15 all wearing their caps this way. It just cracks me up when teenagers try to look rebellious and end up wearing the exact same thing - a uniform almost - which ends up being comical. "Run for your lives its the attack of the baseball cap gang!"
2. Pants that intentionally droop down to your mid thighs exposing your underwear. This began as a hip hop trend I believe - and it has been around since the early nineties. I find this most comical on middle class white kids - trying to emulate the hip hop culture.
As you can imagine - a trip to the mall for me is pure entertainment. I live in fairly upscale area and I find it hilarious when I see teenagers that are most likely from well off families attempt to emulate the urban hip hop culture.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with dodgy women, 'specially if they buy you a drink...
Big no-no women's dress shorts (ie the "tasteful, well heeled look"). You are kinding yourselves. Makes you look like you have skinny legs and a big butt.
Feather boas. These are not fashion, they are on the menu for hunting season in my home state
Men's ties. They should get the same treatment as Feather Boas.. Nasty, sentinent strangling beasties.

lol! I confess, I am with Smass on that one
Birks look as though they are very comfortable, but they are not the most alluring I prefer Tevas, also more practical because you can wear them into water
However, no sandal should ever be worn with socks. Unless you want to be mistaken for a hippie radical ready to launch terror into the hearts of self-respecting flesh eaters everywhere, through the insidious spread of granola and soy cheese in all restaurant supply companies
