What weapons can you backstab with?

Post by pgroves »

What weapons can a thief (or Assassin...) backstab with? I know you can with daggers and short swords, but what about long swords? Also, can you backstab with a club?

Is it the same in Baldur's Gate I?

cheers

Thieves can backstab with any melee weapon usuable by thieves (without UAI of course, so no backstabbing with Casomyr ;) ), including staves and clubs.
There are three kinds of people that no one understands: geniuses, madmen and guys that mumble.

It's fairly simple

You can backstab with any melee weapon that a single class thief can normally use.

So, you can backstab with Celestial Fury but not with the Corthala family blade (both Katanas). Similarly, you can backstab with the staff of the ram, but not with the staff of the magi. Weapons which thieves cannot use (flails or two handed swords, for instance) cannot backstab at all.

So, perversely enough, you can backstab with a club ;)

I'm not sure about BG1, but I think it's the same.

*EDIT* Grr...Numinor beat me to the post....grrr....*END EDIT*
I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.
