Prince of Devils

Post by Luis Antonio »

Man, I was walking through the game, most fun it is, but I just cant kick that Demogorgon's ass!!!
My party:
Barbarian with Flail of Ages +5 and Angurvaldal
Sarevok with Ravager
Jaheira with Sling and Staff of the Ram
Anomen with the improved eletrical mace
Jan with his own launcher
Aerie with cleric staff

All of them are about level 23, so I cant access some of the quest spells, I guess.

Demogorgon

With that party you can toast Demogorgon, the trick is to prep the area, and think about his vulnerabilites. For spoilers on how to take him out, highlight the sekrit text below. I presume that you have some HLAs, but just not a lot. D is an optional fight, anyway, and he doesn't drop anything.

Good luck!

[Some techniques to consider:
1) Spike traps - Jan should be able to lay spike traps by now, he can use Project Image to set more than the normal limit of seven (unless you have tactics installed)
2) Pet swarms - again, Project image can get you past the 5 pets/1 planetar limit on pet summons, swarm that sucker with planetars, swords, skel warriors, etc. Use greater acuity to dump all your offensive spells on Demo - try to get him unable to cast early so he can't summon all his little friends - those Mariliths are a bit of a hassle with innate immunity to normal weapons and their habit of casting Pro MW.
3) Set a bazillion Skull traps, symbols, DB Fireballs, yadda yadda yadda in a back corner and knock big D back into them with Staff or Ram + GWW/Impr.Haste, Smite, Ring of Ram, etc.
4) Use your Rat cloak + Defender of Easthaven/Hardiness/AoF, etc. to make your tank IMMUNE to melee damage & just beat him down (If you want to get really insulting, have Jan wear the cloak along with his Jansen Adventurewear and tank him.

Bwa ha ha
I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.

Thanx

Man, thanx a lot.

I was not using Jan and his skills. Actually , I never used thieves anyway, so... I'd better change my ways of fighting!

So cool that spike trap thing, I was using a normal trap, so it was not really good.

Cool

One thing to keep in mind, Ravager is a fairly lousy Boss weapon, as decapitation does not work on bosses.

One great alternative for Sarevok is the Soulreaver, which you get in SoA exit from the Underdark. This has the effect of:

Two Handed Sword +4: Soul Reaver
Combat Abilities: Each hit makes the target receive a cumulative 2 point
penalty to their THAC0
Duration: 20 rounds

This should weaken demogorgon considerably. Concentrate all your firepower on him, with a bunch of Nishruu's and Hakeashars to weaken his spell casting ability. Once he is taken out, slaughter his minions.

If you have the spell time stop, cast it after sarevok has weakened him with the soul reaver as he is immune to time stop and might kick your mage's butt (or a defenseless party member) after he casts it.

Perhaps

Well, there is a +4 sword on ToB that has a stats 'draining' effect, will that be enough? (I dont remember the sword name at this time, but it is a sigle handed sword made by Cespenar)
That is why I kept seeing a ´death spirit´ going out of his body without knocking him down. Tanx a lot!
