Interesting Dual-Class combo

Post by BigNewt »

I've been playing BG for about 8 million years it seems, trying different characters and classes along the way, and I've finally found one that's pretty cool!

I love the assassin kit, because of the poison ability...but I wanted a harder hitter. So, I started with the ass. thief, and then around level 10, I dualled to a fighter. Once both classes were activated, I was unstoppable! Armed with Celestial Fury and the shield of harmony - I was not only stunning opponents with every hit - I was also seriously poisoning them too!

With Imoen around, I didn't even need/use my other thieving skills...so I just slapped on full plate and whacked everything in sight.

(I needed decent hit points to begin with from my thief, so 18 con was a definite. If you have close to 70 when you dual-class, your fighter should be okay)

Anyway - fun stuff.

A thief has no benefit at all from a constitution of 18.
Constitution of 17,18 or 19 is only useful for Fighters, Paladins, Rangers and Barbarians, all other classes get no further HP Bonus for con over 16.
There are three kinds of people that no one understands: geniuses, madmen and guys that mumble.

why not wait for a bit longer - get the extra backstab multiplyer? a fighter (vanilla & all 3 kits) dualled to thief at level 13 will do the job better. the only reason to prefer the assassin-fighter is the *6 or *7 backstabs (not that *5 by a kensai-thief leaves anything alive...)

Also by dualing to fighter, you lose out on the thief High Level Abilities which are far superior to the fighter ones, IMHO.
