new party

Post by FilipeTeles »

after soloing hundred times(mages,sorcerors,archers,kensai/mage,ranger/cleric,assassin)i decided to return for a 6 member party.here what I thinked
1-me archer gensen bow
2-keldorn carsomyr
3-valygar celestyal fury/crom fayer
4-jan
5-aerie
6-haer dalis
but there will be no mages that can cast lvl 9 nine spells
is there any way to change aerie inteligence(quests) in ToB?
or
Haer Dalis fights for Aerie with you i think. Is worth putting Edwin in his place?

Both Aerie and Jan can cast 9th lev. spells, just use a potion of genius to memorize them, but they will take a long time to reach that lev., so I definatly suggest to change Haer Dalis with a better mage, Edwin or Imoen, or better a Sorcerer.

There's nothing wrong with Aerie, she will do just fine, the fact that she's dual class and levels up slower isn't that much of a back ache, as is with Jann, I've used Jann in almost every game I started and I never regretted him being a thief/mage. He's decent in both classes.

You can take Imoen, instead of Haer Dalis, havin him in your party ad's next to nothing, except a bit of NPC fun. (IMHO)

Chorus: "...ain't no trap can stop the rats!"
"Got no plague and got no fleas..."
Chorus: "...we drink poison, we steal cheese!"
"Mess with us and you will see..."
Chorus: "...we'll put poison in your tea"
"Here we fight and here we'll stay..."
Chorus: "...WE WILL NEVER GO AWAY!"

Ahem..

You can get INT boosts in ToB, though not in SoA (well, not wothout cheating).

Edwin is certainly a good mage, but he's an even better sorceror ;)

Have fun whatever you do!
I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.

......................

SPOILER-well to tell you the truth,i would give up Jan to take Edwin.first of all,Jan is the most pathetic little creature i've seen in this game.he would hold me back all the time and i would waste time and energy to ressurect him all the time.he just can't stay alive.on the other hand,Edwin is a very good mage and proves very very usefull thoughout the game.and he has very high inteligence.Aerie....i wouldn't give her up.she is good.just give her potions of genius when you want her to memorize spells, and you will find her later having tones of spells (mage+priest)

i hope you figure out the best.good luck!

Hundreds of times? That's funny. Assuming that it takes about 100 hours to finish one game, you would have had to play nearly 18 hours a day every day since Shadows of Amn was released to play the game 200 times. :)

You don't need to raise Aerie's Intelligence for her to cast 9th Level spells (and you don't necessarily need to use Potions of Genius, either).

There seems to be a misconception about Intelligence and 9th Level spells. The manual says that a Mage must have INT 18 to learn 9th Level spells, but the manual is wrong (and that's not the only place where it's wrong). The truth is, even a Mage with INT 9 can write 9th Level spells into his or her spellbook. Try it yourself if you don't believe me. :) The only thing that Intelligence limits is how many spells you can write in your spellbook. A Mage with INT 9 can learn up to six spells per level (even 9th Level spells), while a Mage with INT 19 has no limit to the number of spells per level. Intelligence does not affect casting ability or the number of spells you can memorize per day. If you have the game set to "Easy" or "Normal", there's no chance of failure when you try to write a new spell into your spellbook; otherwise, Intelligence does affect the chance that the effort to learn the spell will fail.

If you are playing on "Core Rules" or above and you want to avoid the limit on the number of spells you can write in your spellbook, then Potions of Genius will help. But a Mage does not need INT 18 to write or memorize 9th Level spells. A Mage does need to be 18th Level, however. That's a limit that applies to ALL Mages, and since the experience cap limits all Mages to 17th Level in Shadows of Amn (without Throne of Bhaal), that's the biggest issue.

As for Haer'Dalis, I like to make him a Swashbuckler, which suits him very well. If you handle the conflict over Aerie the right way, you can resolve the matter peacefully without anyone getting killed or leaving the group. (How many people have actually gotten into a duel with Haer'Dalis? Do you really think that Aerie would let you fight over her, or stay with you if you killed somebody?) :)

Sorry, I was just kidding. I figured that you were exaggerating; I was just trying to imagine what it would be like if you had literally meant what you said. :)

@Filipe, if you played the game that much, it might be more fun NOT to have a mage that can cast level 9 spells. After all, soloing a halfling barbarian means you didn't use any spells in that game. Just a thought. :)
Also, as you probably already know, Aerie will become a powerhouse later in the game, casting-wise.
Still, nobody beats Edwin of course, when it comes to wizarding.

Where's the fun in that? Just curious. :)

it was fun finishing the game in one day, with a halfing using a two-handed sword bigger than him.But it was fast and at the end was boring and easy....

No! Really? :D ;)

But then, if you've finished the game in 12 hours, you must be extremely familiar with it by now. Why ask opinions about a kensai/mage, under another thread? You should be a walking strategy guide, surely.
