Soldier/Consular?

Post by Sylince »

Anybody else played Soldier/Consular?
The most fun combo by far in my opinion, just grab up a lot of feats as a soldier, that combined with Kill/Lightning/Death Feild makes you unstoppable.

Yes, and it's my favourite consular class combination, but I prefer using sabers (and thus guardians) myself.

I'm running a soldier/consular in my second game. He's a dual-wielding melee type, but can take a back seat and charbroil opponents nicely. :)
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Soldier/Consular

My Super-Evil Role-Playing Deluxe Soldier/Consular.
-------------
Starting Stats:
Str: 14
Dex: 14
Con: 12
Int: 8
Wis: 16
Cha: 10
( put 4 points in Wisdom and 1 in Strength)

With the high wisdom you will have a nearly limitless supply of force points, and you can easily hold your own in lightsaber combat. I ended up actually going solo from the third planet on, only bringing my party members out now and then for dialouge and quest options.

Powers:
Shock/Lightning/Storm
No question there. Used for super-cool look and to wipe out any large group of enemies single handedly.

Drain Life/Death Field
If you plan on soloing and completing the uber-evil look, then defintely dont pass up these powers. A couple of Force Storms followed up by one of these will leave any group of oppenets either dead or begging to be wiped out lightsaber-style.

Wound/Choke/Kill
I dont even see a need to explain this power its so freaking amazing. Darth Bandon, Hulas, Calo Nord, Uthar, Freyyr/Chuundar, etc. Basically everyone fell to my powerful "kill" without me breaking a sweat. The trick is to cast it multiple times while their still suffering from it. Guaranteed death on pretty much everyone but Malak.

Slow/Affliction/Plague
OR
Fear/Horror/Insanity
This is where I cant simply say "definetly choose these" becuase I found both trees evenly matched. I prefer the "Fear" tree simply out of a role-playing want of the most "evil" powers.

Force Resistance/Immunity
Cast this and you pretty much might as well type in the god mode cheat becuase you will be practically invincible! Malak stands absolutely no chance if you cast this power

Two Extras
If you chose to do a 7 solder/ 13 consular (recommended) split, then you should still have two more force power choices. Completely optional, considering theres really no need for more after youve got the ones mentioned above.

Equipment: Best armor you can find until you get jedi, in which case grab some evil-looking robe (preferably Dark Jedi Master robes or Revan's Robes) As for the lightsaber, a krayt dragon pearl with an upari crystal; combined with mantle of the force makes for a powerful lightsaber with good damage bonuses.

As a dark-side female it was just the most awsome experience walking around solo, being able to eliminate any opponent with powers and lightsaber. Not reccomended for a light-side character though.
------------

All in all, I found it to be a great combo that leaves the pure consulars with a lightsaber through thier chest, and the pure guardians choking from a sucessful "kill".

I'm running a soldier/consular in my second game. He's a dual-wielding melee type, but can take a back seat and charbroil opponents nicely.
Same. Though i use double-bladed instead of two seperate, and usally launch off a couple force storms/drain life/ kill before rushing and wiping them out with the lightsaber.

Here's my (rather loosely defined) build.

Soldier 7 / Consular 13

Strength: 16 (+2)
Dexterity: 14
Constitution: 10
Intelligence: 8
Wisdom: 15 (+3)
Charisma: 10

Not a skill-friendly build, so just take persuade.

Feats are by preference. I took dueling and flurry, but that's just a hangup of mine. TWF and flurry are no doubt more effective so I'll assume you use them. Your BAB will only be 16 at level 20, but you have enough strength to lift a Buick, so your AB will be in the mid-30s anyway. It may or may not be worth wasting a feat on lightsaber focus, that's up to you. I did. As usual, spend leftovers on toughness and conditioning in that order.

Powers - there's 17 to play around with. I took master speed, master valor, heal, stasis field, force wave, dominate mind and drain life. Other powers worth considering are destroy droid and kill. Take force immunity if you want, I never use it, I guess I'm a bit of a meathead. You can dispense with dominate mind in a pinch, but as you may have noticed I do like a little bit of roleplaying.

Equipment - the requisite dominator gauntlets and CNS strength enhancer, to begin with. This is a light side character, so Qel-Dromma & Star Forge robes as applicable. If you have the PC version, you'll use the circlet of Saresh, assuming you don't mind looking like a weirdo. For your lightsaber, I can recommend a couple of builds - for PC users, use the Heart of the Guardian in combination with an upari and either a sapith or a solari/phond. That's an extra 6-16 or 3-22, respectively. If you don't have the PC version, then just upari/solari.

So, final stats with stims, valor and everything at the go:

Strength: 36
Dexterity: 25
Constitution: 21
Intelligence: 13
Wisdom: 33
Charisma: 15

VP: 308
FP: 424
AB: 35
Defense: 22

Damage: 8-36+13 / 8-36+13 / 8-36+13 / 8-36+13 / 8-36+13 (double-bladed lightsaber)

Not bad for a consular. 175 average damage per round, and your offensive powers will still apply with a tremendous DC+16. You've got FP to burn thanks to all your light side wisdom boosting gear, so you can take whatever powers you like and use them with impunity. Fun to play.

Geez, that was long.
