I have the quest to find Liam and eventually close the portal he discovered and I found his workshop and the magical trap but I can't seem to find the portal itself. If anyone has done this quest or found the portal could you give me a hint? Or just tell me where it is. I assume its a place on the world map.
Also another question: anyone know where the "local thieves gang" in Blackroot is? I need to find the mayors Badge but I can't find the thieves anywhere.
BTW I just got this game for the holidays, I'm trying to go back and play all the awesome RPGs I missed over the last few years. I have to say that I've been really impressed with Arcanum's dialogue options, quest solutions, world and replayability but a little dissapointed by the combat. It's a refreshing change of pace from Icewind Dale 2, NWN and KOTOR.
Thanks for any help, I'll probably be back with more questions later.

The portal is close to the workshop. It's not a seperate area on the world map. Just follow the path south / east away from the workshop and it should lead you to the portal.
The thieves are at the northern edge of the town, near the train.

Some advice is that if you are a low level you should just run up to the portal and you will instantly kill all the monsters as soon as you close the portal.
Otherwise, all you need is more experience in the game and you will succeed in the end.

It's a known bug that you can level up and upp at Liam's portal. But that bug's apparently fixed in the Car Arcanum mod.
General advice, when you are anywhere in Arcanum: LOOK FOR PATHS! Usually you arrive at a small place and you have to follow a path. At Liam's workshop your path from him goes South. Actually you can go straight south (while the path goes southeast) and you will bump into it since it curves back; then go West.
