I have an assasin who lays traps and then steps into them, crippling himself! Someone please tell me what I`m doing wrong.
Cheers

Setting off a trap and taking damage is one of the bad things that can happen if you set a trap and fail the roll (determined by set traps skill). The other bad thing of course is that you will fail to set the trap, have no effect and have used it up.
Basicly it just comes down to you dont have enough points in the set traps catagory.

What goes around's been around.
Since Yoshimo is a Bounty Hunter he can set special snares in addition to the normal ones. The Bounty Hunter's special traps can be placed from a distance, similar to spells like Glyph of Warding or Skull Trap. Normal traps are placed from "melee range", your thief walks to the point where you clicked and places them there.
There are 3 "levels of success" when placing traps:
1: You fail setting the trap and hurt yourself
2: You fail setting the trap
3: You place the trap successfully
The higher your score in Set Traps is the better are your results. With a score of 100 you will always place traps successfully. I believe the Set Traps skill also improves damage of the traps, but I'm not sure about that.

There are three kinds of people that no one understands: geniuses, madmen and guys that mumble.
Traps..
Traps have set damage, I believe - except Bounty Hunter special snares, which scale their special effects (and maybe damage) with level.
Traps seem to fail a lot if your skill is below ~80, but over skill 100 they almost never fail.
Traps are cool...

I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.
Agreed, besides the assassin is mostly for backstabing, traps should be considered secondary when using him. If you wanted a traper, like Davfra sais, either use Yoshimo, or just make a Bounty Hunter character heh.
Usstan inbal l' uyl'udith ssinssrigg jihard wun l' tresk'ri! ^^ And it's true too hehe
