Names
What do you guys name your characters? It's always been a problem for me... I come home with this brand new game that I've been wanting for weeks. I rip open the plastic. I put it in my xbox. It loads... The logos flash before my eyes. The menu comes onscreen. I hit "New Game". Sometimes a cinematic will play first. I sit there thinking, "Yeah baby!" And then... It happens. "Please choose a name for your character/car/etc....) It takes me FOREVER to figure out a stupid name! I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem, or what you guys name your characters. I've had three characters for Morrowind: Rutabaga (original name that I use for most of my games), Avocado, and Kumquat. (Haha, Kumquat...) Just interested in some of your ideas.
I'm an xboxer.

I always use something that is currently taking my time. At the time I was watching hellsing, in this there is a character named Alucard (anagram since it is Dracula backward) So I named myself Utarefson-san (the san for being a japanese anime imitation )

I always try to give them names which fit to their race/class/whatever. So I always now which race I'm going to take when I start a new game. My current character is a dunmer and goes by the name "Daraeth Tenerym". I don't know if it fits...maybe only I think so, but I kind of like it....

I'm terrible thinking up names for characters - so mostly I just use Xandax for all RPG typish games.
And if I need to have more characters - they are also called Xandax in single player games .
(In multiplayer RPG games I range from random names to some sort of Xandax where I changed the first letter to something new like Sandax, Candax etc - so much for originality )

uh why dont u use your own name for your own character?
i dont know what the three names u usually use mean but all real names do have meanings like Sarah means princess, Eric means honorable ruler, Caden means fighter, and Dan means gods judgement or something, if u just put letters together to make up names like zargok then u wont make sense, if u are playing an orc go to an orc site and look up common names and their meanings. same with elves and what not. ill edit this later and put up a site u can use. However, i did make up my online/gamer name. It's called Bloodthroe, it means hard to live. Blood meaning life and Throe meaning painful struggle.

I kill two dwarves in the morning, I kill two dwarves at night. I kill two dwarves in the afternoon, and then I feel alright. I kill two dwarves in time of peace and two in time of war. I kill two dwarves before I kill two dwarves, and then I kill two more.
I may be bad, but I feel good.

I have a rather eccentric approach when it comes to naming characters. while I have my stock favourites - calling my mage Barry the White, for example - I have been known to stray into mathematical terminology (mantissa) the odd (obidiah knipperdollink III) the random (the avanging sandwich) the stolen (bob-bob hardyoyo) and the downright offensive.
I think I just get bored easily during that bloody introduction.

hmmmm...
you guys have very cool names but I still have to say that my FAVOURITE name is my wood elf's name : Hwesta (which, as far as I know [in Tolkien elvish] in elvish means: Breeze...) no, I am not one of those people who just go searching for elvish websites JUST to get a name for an RPG but i have downloaded a 174 page Quenya learning course...
okay, this is my first post in the history of my life so don't wonder why it's wierd... I'm new here... how do you go about talking to people? is this an email? there is alot of confusing buttons to push *lol* I'll figure it out... although I will only check this once and awhile...
does anyone else like Lord of the Rings? I LOVE it! it is the reason I like Morrowind alot (besides the fact that it is a good game...)
*TIP: if u want a good name try looking up an elvish dictionary... you can find really cool names there... (e.g. my cat is named "Isilen" which could mean "Moon eyes" and "Isilwen" supposidly means "Moonmaiden" and "Elwen" means star maiden and "Elwe" means "Star spray" and so on and so forth...

well...
for a start it is a role playing game, secondly why not spend time thinking of a name its boring using your own name, the whole point of games is that they are an escape from the depressing reality of the world in its current state, thats why peopel put in customisation features into comuter game, although it doesn't change the game as such, if NPCs are calling your character by a name that you relate to (i.e. involving you) your more interested and the characters seem more realistic.
you might not agree with this but thats the way I see it.
You really see it as a ROLE playing came dont you. I alway use my normal name. and besides why think that long bout a name when i doesnt makes the game different?
