What are your tactics when battling mages, mindflayers, golems, demon (balor type) and vampiers???????
When I fight against mages the ai.scripts work very well. Since my party consist of Minsce, Keldorn, Valygar, Me (Cavelier), Imoen and Aerie. The cavelier and minsce have a script that makes them atack mages first. This helps a lot and my breach spells come in handy (+ protection against cheatic commands).
Against golems I only use brute force...does anyone know something more effective???
In my opion mindflayers are the thoughest creatures to battle. Becuase of those death thouches. Most of the time I just lure one into a hallway and close the door behind him and fight them one at a time.
What do you all do agianst these nasty creatures???????

Mind flayers are made much easier by the greenstone amulet. I don't know where in the game you are, but before you go to the mindflayer dungeon in the underdark, you can pick up the amulet in the beholder dungeon (which is piss easy if you have the cloak of mirroring). It has 15 charges, and although it says it does not confer complete complete immunity to psionics, I cleared out the mindflayer dungeon without it failing once. Just give it to your best warrior and get his armour class as low as possible. With Drow full plate+5 and a total AC of about -14 they will require a 20 to hit you, so you should be reasonably safe. Also, always take out the Ulitharids first, as they only seem to need to hit you twice, and have a better THAC0. If they have Umber Hulks with them, fire a cloudkill from out of sight and run. Finally, skeletons are immune to mindblasts, and can do reasonable to mindflayers. You might want to send in a couple with your warrior.
Brute force works for me too against golems.
Vampire's are made much easier by the amulet of power (from Aran Linvail at the start of chapter 3 if you side with shadow thieves)
PS if you are having trouble finding the greenstone amulet, check the walkthrough.
Hope this helps

Mages: I always try to get Minsc (wielding a silver sword - 25% percent change of killing instantaneously with each hit) against them. Since mages usually start by casting some defensive spells or summoning spells, I try to ignore them and first deal with fighters and other monsters that accompany the mage, possibly luring them away from the mage. Once he's alone, I start attacking with all my people. If I get the message that weapons are not effective, I start casting breach spells and the likes, until I get through to them. Usually they are quickly taken care off, then.
If they cast lots of high level spells, I try to get just in his visual range with one character (preferably a thief, since he can hide in the shadows if neccesary, when outside anybody's view), and run off once he starts casting. Not only can you prevent nasty effects because you're not in combat (so what if you're stunned or mazed? There's no one to harm you anyway), but at the same time the protections he cast earlier will wear off. By the time he's through his top-level spells, you can easily dispatch them.
Mindflayers: if there are Umber Hulks around, I start by casting one or more Cloudkills into the room, to kill them. When they're on their own, I sneak in with a thief (while keeping my party far away), backstab one, run away (boots of speed), and hide again once I'm out of their view. I repeat this until they're all dead, or I have had to retreat all the way back to my party - then the mind flayers that followed will have to face my entire party. Note: mind flayers suck away 5 Intelligence points per hit (temporarily), and character with 0 or lower Intelligence are slain right away. That's why undead don't have to fear these attacks.
Golems: hit 'm and hit 'm hard. Until you get the Crom Faeyr. Except for the Adamantite Golem, you can slay almost all other Golems with a single hit. For the Adamantite Golem and the Iron Golem, try to find a thight spot. A doorway or small stairs will do. Then get someone with a LONG weapon (halberd, two-handed sword, etc...) which is at least +3 to attack the Golem, while it can't reach you; it is too big to fit the door, stairs ... Because of your range he won't be able to hit you in return. When you see he casts his poison breath, run backwards, and wait for the cloud to dissipate. Then return to the killing.
Balor: make sure you have +3 weapons or better, and summon some creatures to assist you. While they won't be able to harm the demon, he'll be distracted by them. Any damage done to your creatures is damage not done to you. Before the battle, try to get some beneficial spells on your party, like Chant, Bless and Haste. Also, you might want to cast some spells that make your party temporarily immune to mind effects like confusion and charm.
Vampires: try and get some items (Mace of Disruption, or an amulet that's very good for mages - check the item list on this site) that prevent level-drain, or cast Negative Plain Protection on one or more of your characters. This will prevent level drain by them. Then simply hit them with whatever you can throw at them.
