spellhold bug?

Post by ektoplasma »

i got to spellhold for the first time recently. first i tried to talk my way in, and minsc helped me. kindof. but i wanted to try the other way too, just to see what would happen.so i reloaded and fought my way to the door etc.
finally i decided to go with the first alternative.
but when i got in all the prisoners were duplicated! is this a known bug and how is it fixed?

Hmmm...

I've never seen duplicate prisoners, but I can't see that it's a game stopping bug. Can you just play through?

Hmm...

Well, did you try reloading from your last few save(s)? If those still give you the double prisoners, you may have a corrupt save game.

If that's the case, the only options can think of are:
1) If you have cheat mode enabled, CTRL-Y kill the "extra" prisoners and carry on.
2) Try the asylum dungeon dungeon, and see what happens.

It may well be that getting to the door spawns a prisoner set, and then going back to talk your way in spawns a second one. If that's the case, then you need to revert to a save prior to the spawning of the second set of prisoners.

Good luck!

NB - Spoiler below about the relevance of the prisoners, highlight if you want to read, or ignore if you want to preserve the surprise:

The prisoners will be needed to help you complete the asylum portion of the game, however, I don't know if the dual spawn will still be there, and even if they are, I tend to think it will only make things a bit easier for you.
