Dude. I jumped from original NWN to HotU (if you remember, I had a previous post on this issue). Anyhoo, Ive completed HotU, and have my fighter at I think level 24-25.
I am probably the only person that has played this series in reverse. LOL
Anyhoo, if I get SoU now, will it be a walk in the park, or is it designed to recognize character level, and adjust the game accordingly seeing how Im actually going backward in the series. Hmm....

It will be a walk in the park.
The modules are made for a new character, from level 1 and upwards.
So even though the game does recognize your level (you get low low exp for instance ), it can't spawn in much thougher monsters then the spawnpoints that have been placed in the game/module development.
I would always recommend that if it is the first time one is going to play through SoU, that they start with a new character, otherwise - they might miss to much of the game, because there is no "peril".
But of couse - it all comes down to how one self likes to play.
