Using an Item problem

Just got back into the game since the expansion came out. Playing multiplayer...and trying to go thru the whole game again. Having a problem using items....example being we picked up the activation stone...yet when we walked up to the sewage golem and click on him nuthin happens....this is also the case with the energy cells...Anyone else having this problem...or am I forgeting something when it comes to using an item...doesnt it just have to be in ur inventory?

do you use win 2000 or win xp? or whatever its called? theres a new patch out that fixes some bugs associated with NPC's not responding properly. go to interplay.com and find it there , just released like a few days ago. But the patch is only for those two operating systems, so if you use something different, then it may be something else you need to do.
