1602

Post by Weasel »

Alright the year is 1602 and you have just landing on a island with (insert your trees, wild life, ect) an axe, some seeds (decide on your own what type) and a ball of string. No government or religion, except what you bring with yourself, meaning you could start with none.

Could you survive?

No tp, so grab a leaf!
No Coke, so drink the water!
No smokes, no internet...

None unless you bring them with you. ;) Remember though, this just to see if you can survive, not start a colony.

I think I could do it, but after the initial exhiliration of breathing cleanly for the first time in my life, I might find it very tough. ;)

It actually sounds quite refreshing.

Any natives on the island?

This is up to you to decide, though they cannot help you survive. No buying food from them ect.. ;)

Depends how big is this island, if its one of those small islands it would be really hard because one you would not be able to cut down enough trees for shelter.

I mean sure you could fish, but resources would be really limited if the island is really small.

Is it a rocky island, because to be honest you need something hard to spark against for fire, you could use your axe as a starting point.

Are there any natural springs on this island?

Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a protestant. Then they came for me--but by that time there was no one left to speak up."

But seriously, I could probably survive on your average island (provided there were food and clean water sources), but I would get bored out of my mind. I don't think I could survive with as little as Tom Hanks had on his little island in that movie.

One thought that has always occurred to me concerning the reality show Survivor is that I'm amazed that most of the cast just end up sitting around the beach all day sleeping and swatting flies. It must be how the show is set up (we only have to sit here for 39 days, so why bother?), because I would be trying to scavenge materials to improve my shelter, looking for other sources of food, knappable stone for tools, hunting, etc., Not just sitting around glaring at each other....

Thats because its not really about surviving but about drama.

Priorities

First task: a still, to brew a nice double-bock. :D The seeds I bring along: hops, barley, malt! :D (Oh, and wheat, for the weissbier.)

I could survive on weissbier and double-bock no problem. But I would definitely bring along some company. ;)

@Gwally: I love it!! :) Is your island anywhere near my island?

Peace.

GMTA. :)

Though you did leave out the extraordinary Lake of Chicken Saag, which is said to cure all ills.

The size of say, Cuba. So wood wouldn't be a problem. ;)

Yes natural springs. Food would be the main thing. Either survive from..fishing, planting, or the natural food on island... (You decide on the natural food)

but I would get bored out of my mind.

As Gwally has said, this would be the hardest part to me as well. Once the shelter is built and a stable source of food is gotten...then what?

1.Improve the shelter more.
2.Stock pile more food.
3.Relax and enjoy the peace and quiet :D

Also....now would you expand?

Weasel explicitly forbade that. Of course, he also spoke of reality, but personally I've always assumed that, like the Fountain of Youth, a River of Chicken Saag existed somewhere, so I'm not expecting anything unusual. :)

Sounds like paradise.
I kill two dwarves in the morning, I kill two dwarves at night. I kill two dwarves in the afternoon, and then I feel alright. I kill two dwarves in time of peace and two in time of war. I kill two dwarves before I kill two dwarves, and then I kill two more.
I may be bad, but I feel good.
