Problem with resting

Post by Bigbadmuthu »

Hi,

Well, I'm kind of stuck... Each time I try to rest (in an inn or somewhere outside) the game freezes. I installed the latest patch, but it still doesn't work. So if someone has an idea, it would really help me out. I mean it was fun to travel through the Underdark and its 3 dungeons without taking a single nap, but I have the feeling that I'm going to need to use spells eventually...

Maybe you are about to have a dream/cutscene/romance thingy and the game can't cope with that?

Yup, I thought about that too, especially cause it's been a long time since I didn't have any of these. But that still leaves me pretty much screwed, as I don't have any clue about what to do to solve this...

Try reinstalling...

That's what I did. The game still freezes - and good; there's nothing to do but to restart the PC with the reboot button. I guess something interferes with the next dream/cutscene, but I've no idea what...

It could be possible the "resting-cinematic" is damaged and causes the crash...
You could try disabling the cinematics or see if the game crashes if you run the cinematic from the main menu, but I think reinstalling would be the best solution.

As I said, I just reinstalled the game, and the result was the same. Disabling the cinematics may solve the problem (although I don't know how there could possibly be a problem, since I reinstalled the whole thing today), but I looked everywhere in the Config program without finding the option...

Well, I don't know what else I could try... A shame, I really loved this game

Before you reinstalled, did you do a search of your registry for all mentions of "Baldur" in order to delete them?

No I didn't. I figured the uninstall program would do things right. Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try.

Be sure you back up your registry, before changes.

Ok, I deleted the old "baldur"-keys in the registry and reinstalled, but it's still not working. If there is a way to deactivate the cutscenes, perhaps that could fix things, but I didn't see where one could do that. Otherwise, looks like there is no other options than to return to the real world...

The only other thing I can think of is posting your question in Bioware's tech forum.

I tinkered a bit with my party composition, and I found out that Keldorn was the one that caused the problem. The crash occurs only when he's with me; besides him, I have Minsc, Aerie, Jaheira and Jan. And I have no idea why having Keldorn messes everything up. So, again, any input on this would be greatly appreciated, since I'd like to keep my Carsomyr-wielder...

It sounds like data corruption. You could always leave him out of your party, exit the area, return, add him once more, and see if it occurs again.

Hello...

I had the same problem just few minutes ago...

With me the resting problem was with Aerie, and it occurred probably because of the alterations I had made to Aerie, with Shadow Keeper. Have you used this when playing?

I have had this problem many times before, and it always occurs because of the "abilities" changes... dex, con, str, hp and such (Well with me at least).

However, I have heard before that this is not exclusive problem of cheaters, so it may be that this is just useless info to you...

uh.. bye

Um Hello again

I found out what caused 'my' rest problem...

Aerie was slightly damaged/hurt, before trying to rest, so the game crashed every time i tried to sleep. So when I healed her before clickin rest everything worked like it should.

I hope of course, that your rest problem can be solved with few potions or spells aswell :)

Uh, by the way that was second time that annoying problem was caused because of HP (with me of course).

Bye

Well, I only used Shadow Keeper to remove the three *** I'd put in Bastard Swords (silly me) and invest them in Long Swords. Apart from that, no cheats or mods whatsoever.
Also, I realised later that the game started to freeze while resting even without Keldorn in the party. Oh well... Maybe it's hardware-related after all, though everything worked just fine at the beginning. I would like to replay the game, but not if it's just to be stuck halfway again.
Thank you all for your input anyway...

Sorry to hear that things didn't work out. :(

The rest crash is pretty much the most annoying thing to happen in BG2, I've had to start from the beginning because of that too few times.

Did you test the health thing, I mentioned before?
Check that your party is at full health (use cheatkeys if you cannot heal otherwise), does it still crash?
