Physical Damage (mild spoiler NWN)

Post by Zebulon »

In Charpter 2, I picked up the Greater Swordsman Belt and the Greater Brawler's Belt. Each absorbs up to 20 points of damage per hit depending upon type, slashing and bludgeoning repsectively. I passed on the Archer's Belt, given that I hadn't faced too much piercing damage thus far, and the Improved Robes of the Old Order do a pretty fair job against arrows on their own.

Lately, I have been fighting some animals I would anticipate to be bludgeoning and Uthgarts I would anticpate to be slashing. Their images, once they put their bows away, show them using short swords. In each case, neither belts offer any resistance against what is described as "Physical" damage.

Is this a fourth type of damage? Any belts I should be looking for? If not, which type of opponents deliver physical damage, as it would save time trying to figure it out.

Short swords are piercing damage, as with many others weapon(dagger, darts, arrows, spears, rapier), so the Greater Belt of the Archer protects against 20 damage from these weapons.

Take a look at the weapon tables in the original manual, it will state what damage each weapon is considered doing. (although there are a few erros in thoes tables)

Personally - I would not go without the piercing damage resistance belt either when using thoese belts - because many of thoese that use piercing damage also have sneak attack, which can cause serious damage :)
