Wise Woman-Thread

Post by Monolith »

Hey,

So here's what I want you to do:
Some of you surly made some experiences with Morrowind which aren't tooo cheesy, but are a great way to increase skills, make the Morrowind-Life easier or about which you think the community should know. Tell us! In this thread every user is a wise woman!

Alright, then I start being a wise old gal...

1. You heard of the 'Mark'-Potion? Yes? Use it. I marked the position in Vivec north of the Foreign-Quarter. Why? You can travel by boat and 'whatever'-rider. Wherever you are in Morrowind, just recall and travel to any town...really usefull. ( I have a Recall-Amulett. You can get one in Ald-ruhn, under the Skar or whatever, Enchanter)

2. Do you want to increase your security-skill? Nothing easier than that - all you need is a cheap set of lockpicks, a door, a "lock"-Spell or -Amulett/Ring/whatever and much time. Just "lock" the door and unlock it again ( and again, and again...). It's not a very cheesy way because that's the way of mastering an artform - practicing. I only make it when the amulett is fully charged again. I could sleep an hour and do it again, but THAT would be cheesy.

3. You don't have to get your stuff repaired by a smith. You get some Armorer's Hammers when you take out the 'bad people' in Balmora. When you're a thief: sometimes it's easy to steal some hammers from some Fighter's Guild chests. You don't have to be skilled to use them.

4. If you get some Raw Glass/Ebony or Scrap Metal, keep at aleast 4 of it - it's likey that you'll need it ( quests).

5. If you want to increase a weapon skill take one of the worst weapons and fight some weak creatures. You'll have to do more hits than with powerfull weapons => the bar rises per successfull hit ( until the skill levels up). BTW, I wouldn't do this with armor...

Alright...that's it for now. I'm sure our Uncle will add this or that...

Hmmm...

1) Install Abu's Retreat in Pelagiad. Drop off your alchemy equipment (which you stole from the tower in Caldara; just close the door and grab it), there. Be sure to grab the recall ring on the front table.

2) Find the vacant hut in the southwestern corner of Pelagiad. Inside is a backdoor. It leads you to a magical chamber where you can walk through to Balmora.

3) Do as Blake suggests.

4) Use your recall ring.

5) Go to your alchemy chamber. Make the potions he recommends.

6) Go back to the vacant hut, etc.

Yes, I see your point. ;) Of course, this is also cheese, and somewhat anti-RPG...

Skills get harder to raise as you go along, so if you know of a skill book (if there's a sermon of Vivec sitting in front of you) don't read it until your skill is quite high, since that point you advance will be harder to get on its own that if you had got it eairlier.

To get your block skill up early on buy a cheap shield from Arille in Seyda Neen, find the tax collector, and go to his murderer. Tell him you've come to kill him and he'll attack you. You should block some of his attacks and each one early on is about 25/100 skill increase, it'll take him a long time to get your fatigue low, and you're block skill should be up by two or three. Quickly exit his house and wait for one hour. Go back in with fully recharged fatigue and continue your block skill increase.

When you're stuck for something to do pay a visit to the Library of Vivec, then Jobasha's rare books. Both have an extensive array of skill increasing books, and its worth checking out the temple too. Jobasha has the full set of the Wolf Queen books i think, so thats worth looking at.

Most temples have a copy of at least three of Vivec's sermons, its always worth reading them just to see if you can raise your skill. Still on the topic of skill books, if a merchant has one, why not borrow and learn from it, that means buy it, read it, sell it back. It like training the skill for a fraction of the cost.

DM

PS Magic users should check out Baladas' library.

How to increase the 'speechcraft'-Skill more or less easiely:

Finish the 'Breeding Netch'-Mission in Gnaar Mok or the 'Bad People/Anti-Commona-Tong'-Mission in Balmora. Then go to a townsperson and talk with him/her about either 'Breeding Netch' or 'Commona Tong' and that person will like you more - the bar raises by 10, everytime you talk about that talkingoption. Try to admire that person and when the bar reaches 0 just talk about 'Breeding Netch'/'Commona Tong' againg, until it reaches 65. Now you can admire again...and again...

Hmmm... just tried the speechcraft thing above - didn't work for me. Go figure. What I usually do to get my speechcraft higher, faster, is when I have someone to kill, and I'm about to taunt them, I bribe them like crazy first. I'll bribe them until they like me 100, then taunt them down to 0. Then up again. Then down again. The bribing raises your speechcraft, people are taunted more easily when they like you more, and you get all your money back anyway.

You can also pay very cheaply to raise your Speechcraft, without traveling far. I think it's the woman on the second floor of Pelagiad's tavern.

hum....yes, it doesn't work with every NPC. In Balmora are some NPCs who don't talk to you about the Commona Tong. These who tell you, that they think that you've something to do with the 'bad people'-thingie will like you more everytime you talk about the commona tong. ( And it works only with these NPCs)
And the town with the breeding netch is Gnaar Mok I think, not Hla Oad...sorry. There it should work with every NPC.

Have something attack you, then get your cheat going (black, white, black, black, black) and just leave your game running while you sleep, wake up and you'll be pretty decent with your armour!
What a wonderous love it is
To bind two souls in faith,
Chained completely together
With never a false word,
Weal and woe, wish and real,
Woven each together
From first kiss to last breath
First and last whispered in love

Warning: My answer below doesn't *SPOIL* anything in the quest, so far as I know (not having finished it), but it might be giving away a major Easter egg sort of thing my only local Morrowind-playing friends hadn't come across:

I stumbled on a great place to Mark in Vivec, at the Canton with the Ministries of Truth and Justice in it. You have to levitate up to the terrace above the level that the bridges lead to (at least that's the only way I've found to get up there. It's crawling with Indoril-dressed guards and I can't explore the area at my leisure cuz I have a suit of their armor).

Anyway, there's three statues at three of the corners of the terrace. There's an obelisk thingy at the other corner. Get blessings from it and you can levitate for ages! I flew from there to the northern extreme of the island with plenty of gas to spare, even while pausing five or six times to fight racers in the air. Mark that place and you can get back anywhere.
So I have travelled throughout the land and was a pilgrim all my life, alone and a stranger feeling alien. Then Thou hast made grow in my Thine Art under the breath of the terrible storm in me.

If you're capable of acquiring a Constant Effect: Invisibility item, you can raise your sneak skill by simply wearing it, finding a wild animal or townsperson, and sneaking as normal. Because of the Invisibility you won't be detected and your Sneak skill will increase.

Don't only carry one single weapon with you. Always have a lighter, if lesser, backup weapon in case your primary weapon has deteriorated or has no effect on a certain monster.

Do not underestimate the value of Levitate, Night Eye, and Fortification potions. If you're exploring a mountain range and need to hop over some rocks, are blind in a dark cave, or just need to haul some buns from a sticky situation, Cheap potions that last only for a few seconds can be all you need to get you by.

Don't carry Alchemical sets or Armorer's Hammers with you. They're deadweight in a pack and can really become a hindrance should you find some heavy ebony weapons somewhere. Deposit these items somewhere safe and return to them when you need them.

Have multiple strongholds around the continent, and place them strategically. Have at least four rest stops scattered about: in at least two towns under your own House's jurisdiction, one in the Ashlands/West Gash, and one in the Molag Amur/Grazelands territory. If you have Bloodmoon then you may want to lay claim to a house on Solstheim. You may never use some of these holds for more than just quick rest-and-rejuvinate stops, but it does pay off to have them.

Early in the game get your bearings straight: it may be tempting to spurlge half of your 200 septims on fun things like enchanted amulets and alchemy equipment, but focus more on the defensive. Armor, if you wear it, and health potions are more important tools than an enchanted blade that you'll be finding eventually as you travel anyway.

Don't be such a lazy bum. Walk through the continent, especially in the beginning of the game. Instead of paying for training outright get some yourself by travelling from town to town on foot. Silt Striders can get you there faster, yes, but you'll miss out on valuable experience that you would have gotten by taking the route yourself.

Excellent advice, Aqua-chan. :)

1) Bargain a purchase down a drake or two, or a sale up one or two. Even if you accomplish no more than this with every merchant, you will help your Mercantile skill.

2) Once you've purchased some armor, allow something small and insignificant to whale on you a bit. This should increase your armor skills significantly in the early game.

3) Always have a second retreat strategy in place. Never leave yourself with one method of escape from a tight situation, since you may end up cursed, or near death, or suddenly find yourself mobbed by more creatures than you expected. Having some form of quick egress--a recall ring, a home teleport ring, restore potions, levitation, etc--can make the difference between getting out alive and loading a savegame.

4) Stick close to the main roads, at first. Once you gain a few levels, explore, but stay relatively close to the main towns near Seyda Neen. There's plenty to be discovered that will make a significant challenge. You only want to take your character on a island-long stroll when you're able to deal with any threats that might arise. Boldly striking out on your own path only to consistently run away gets very boring, after a while. And it's hell on the feet.

"I stumbled upon a trick that will make you all but invincible and give you unlimited strength, skills, magic, etc. First you must buy a fortifying spell, i.e. fortify strength, intelligence, enchant, speed, and soultrap. There are two types of fortification categories, one being fortify attribute, which would be strength, intelligence, speed and so on, and the other fortify skill, in other words enchant, acrobatics, security, etc. Once you have one fortify attribute and one fortify skill spell in your magic inventory, go to a spellmaker. You will have to buy a combined spell that includes fortify attribute/skill on self and soultrap on target. I don't know why but this combination will make the fortification semi-permanent. First choose a fortify attribute or fortify skill spell. Then choose which attribute or spell you wish to fortify. An example would be: Fortify Strength 10 Points on Self for Three Seconds, then Soultrap on Target for Three Seconds (area need not be changed). Buy the spell and try it on a wall, or anywhere. You don't have to trap a soul with it. The spell will simply increase your strength by 10 points infinitely if you use it once. if you use it one hundred times it will increase your strength by 1000 points infinitely. The only way your strength will decrease is if another character drains your strength, but you can just fortify it again. This spell works with almost all fortifications. My recommendation is that you fortify your intelligence first to increase your magika so that you can repeat the spell without having to rest often to restore your magika. You can become far more powerful than any character in the game within minutes and for a minimal price. Oh yeah, it also works for bound weapon and armor spells. Buy a bound weapon or armor spell, i.e., bound mace, bound longsword, bound helm, bound boots, etc. and use it the same way as instructed above. This will give you bound (magical daedric) weapons and armor as part of your permanent inventory. They cannot be sold however, so don't bother trying. It took me a while to figure this out, but once you lern to use these spells you will be more powerful than any god or creature in the game. Happy hunting !"

This is the ultimate of ultimate cheeses. This trick is insane... I got all of my skills over 10000.... Seriously if you are looking for a cheap way to play here it is. The only problem is finding a fortify skill spell...

[QUOTE=Aaron Kasra]Warning: I stumbled on a great place to Mark in Vivec, at the Canton with the Ministries of Truth and Justice in it. The obelisk thingy is (integral to the main quest plot and the following remark is therefore blacked out) there in tribute Vivec stopping that asteroid/prison from striking ground.

You have to have a rising force potion to leave as an offering from this effect to work.

It might not work after you've rescued that Elf librarian from the slammer. Either that or my XBox character just didn't have any rising force potions on him when he went there. (I'm not sure if it accepts homemade levitation potions as an offering)

This conjecture contains some of the same spoiler:
So why, if you have this cool asteroid suspended over your town, do you WASTE it as a maximum security prison! Is Vivec nuts (Don't answer that; I'm still not through the main quest!) I mean, the island is pockmarked with unpleasant places that would make fine prisons. The asteroid should be a palace or casino or something.

Yeah, as long as you have a store bought levitating potion, you can visit that shrine and be blessed at any point in the game. Says so right in the Pilgrim's Path. ;)

Thanks for the tip. (I've been waiting for the movie or graphic novel of Pilgrim's Path to come out)

I'm thinking I might by a crate of raising force and leave it somewhere around the temple for the purpose.
