Disagree completely. John Terry was not touching the keeper and didn't stop him from jumping - that was the first thing I looked for.

I definitely saw an arm against the goallie's shoulder as he tried to jump before the goal was scored. That said, I'm not sure whether a ball that seemed to touch the line of England's goal entered or not, which the referee said to carry on anyway...

This will probably be discussed in detail by all english and foreign media tomorrow... the commentators in swedish TV all agreed (IIRC) that the free kick was fair, although they did also say that the referee could nothave seen the event t all so it was what they called an "aliby" call be the referee. In the premiur legue the referee would not have called the free kick but seeing as goalies have a holy status in these games the free kick was given to portugal...

I agree that the ref couldn't see the "incident" but the linesman could. And gave the goal. How can you explain the difference? A ref ALWAYS has to consult his linesmen with regards to incidents he can't see, he just can't make a judgement call, especially at this level. I reitterate that the linesman gave it.

I saw all three men go up, terry's arm (I didn't see the match but thats what I inferred) rests on his shoulder as he heads it in, when he goes down so does the arm, by the time the goalies down the goals has been scored.

I do no like that referee, I think he was bitter. We had beat his team in the first stages, the swiss.

LOL - Greece in the lead 1-0 against France. Scoring fell in the 65th minute (or there about) .....

Fun to see if they can hold France away

This is so much like Denmark in '92 it is uncanning. Wonder if Greece can go all the way

I do think Holland has a good chance for winning this match. But since I got nothing at stake (this time), I look forward to an enjoyable match.
But Holland seems more "all-round" then Sweden. Sweden has some very good attackers, but I feel they lack a little in defence and midtfield, so if they are going to win they have to really work for it

But ..... hey - Sweden is "our neighbours", so Go Go Go Sweden

Well, let's not forget, there's been a couple of surprises so far. The Czechs, the Greeks, the Portugese did a lot better than expected and France, Germany and England were sent home.

I can just picture Advocaat, the Dutch coach, and the entire Dutch team sitting in their hotelrooms mumbling mantra's to themselves: 'I think I can, I think I can...'

Sweden out - Holland onwards after penalty.

What a miss by Slatan (I can't spell his last name). That was nowhere near the goal.

But good save by Van Der Saar(sp?) at the last swedish kick. He had gone to the right of the goal, in the all other shots, except that last one which he saved

Lucky I got home from Paris yesterday night before the game - with France crashing out to Greece, Paris must have been gloomy yesterday night....

Sad to see Sweden and England go in penalty shootouts, I have penalties, the teams could as well just flip a coin for the win.

@Xan: Zlatan Ibrahimovic is his name, I am surprised he did a "Baggio". The Dutch keeper was good, but I don't think the last save was so spectacular actually, rather it was a very bad penalty shot by Swedish captain Mellberg.

Yeah - that's the name

But I do think the save was good, but then again, much of goalies work at penalties is simply going to the right direction

If they save, it was a poor shot - if they don't save, it was a "unlucky" or they didn't have a chance. A Goalkeeper can hardly loose in a penalty situation

But the shot was maybe not as fast as it should have been, but it had a good height and good direction.

Uhh - a trip to Paris, I'm jealous - hope it was a good trip

Go Greece, go! Oh, and Holland; make sure your guys kick the team ranked as number three on my "worst version of swan lake" list (for Europe that is) all the way home (which isn't that far). Greece is number four on the list when they're tired, but since they haven't won anything ever, I'll let it slide for now.

I still say Collina is the best Man on the field! It's amazing how much better and nicer the teams play when he's the referee. No filming, no complaint, no rolling around on the field... just football.
