Mirror, Mirror on the wall, tell me who is the mage for me of them all

Basically, ive started a new game on BG2 as you may/may not already know.

Imoen has just been abducted by Irenicus, hence i need a mage.

THIS time, i dont want Nalia, and i cant be bothered to do Edwin yet, who else can i get for a mage early on in the game? I am in Athkalla at the moment

decent cleric wouldnt go amiss either

or could i multi-class someone?

I am a Paladin btw so i have a few spells, and will get more obviously (Wisdom 18)

Definitely go for Jan.

Hmm..

Jan will do fine, but don't be dissing Edwin. The red wizard is agreat mage (and an even better Sorceror).

Cheers.

I'd say go for Jan. He's a must have in just about all my parties. And since he's a multi you might wanna go with Haer'Dalis for some extra firepower, not to mention a pretty decent fighter. And if I may be so bold as to suggest an NPC mod, Kelsey would make an amazing addition to any party not already containing a Sorceror (or already containing one for that matter). And if you haven't tried a Sorceror yet, you don't know waht you're missing.

well this is what i may use now for my lineup, bearing in mind i dont wanna use Edwin cos ive used him a lot before (however no question he is the best mage in the game)

me (Paladin)
Mazzy (even though ive used her before; not as much as i have minsc)
Valygar
Jan
Aerie
Nalia (even though ive used here before; not as much as Edwin)

therefore i have Valygar, Jan and Aerie who i have never properlly used before.

Where can i find Kelsey? i put him into the game but not sure where....

I believe you find Kelsey in the Government District, near Keldorn's estate. Though it has been some time since I've played, so somebody correct me if I'm wrong :)

I find Kelsey can be a bit too talkative. Or at least he can be if you romance him, but he's a really good spell caster. This debate has been tossed about many times here already, but I'd take a sorceror over a mage *any* day.
